Position Purpose:
As a Software Engineer Manager, you will be given a chance to contribute to the products we create and help grow the next generation of engineering talent. This role will help shape the future direction of The Home Depot’s customer facing Mobile Application.
The Manager must exhibit the ability to lead engineers to deliver new features, enhance existing ones, and maintain quality & stability of a large retail app. Manager must work with Product and UX (as part of a 3-legged stool) to ensure engineers have what they need to be successful.
Key Responsibilities:
30% Delivery & Execution:
Collaborates and pairs with product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutionsDocuments, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are metWrites custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test casesWorks with vendors and partners for the successful implementation of critical tooling and platformsCreates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactivelyContributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, and engineering empowermentEvaluates new technologies for adoption across the enterpriseParticipates in and leads review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterpriseFills in on product teams for engineers who are out of the office
10% Support & Enablement:
Fields questions from engineers, product teams, or support teamsMonitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teamsProvides application support for software running in productionActs as a technical escalation point for the engineers on the team
50% People:
Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Software EngineersAttracts, retains, and develops top talent to build a world class Software Engineering TeamConducts annual and mid-year reviews by reviewing individual development plans and team feedbackFosters collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams, and finds opportunities to expose engineers to career interestsActs as a proponent of modern software development practicesGuides team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks within and across product teamsParticipates in and contributes to learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
Typically reports to the Software Engineer Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.
Travel Requirements:
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
5-7 years of relevant work experienceMastery with hands-on experience with development, testing and deployment of large Android & iOS applications (Large retail experience a plus)Mastery with hands-on experience with Swift, Swift UI (iOS), Kotlin, Jetpack Compose (Android), Kotlin Multiplatform (at least one platform)Mastery with hands-on experience of modern product development processes and pipelines (Github actions a plus)Mastery of modern testing methodologies and best practices for Mobile applicationsMastery in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques encountered by team members in both pre-prod and prodAware of importance of AI and capabie of increasing team’s use of it during the release cycleAware of the importance of metrics to measure team productivity (Jira Velocity to measure Predictabilty, Code Climate Velocity a plus)Proficiency in guiding more junior team members through Software Engineering fundamentals in a professional settingProficiency in training up the experienced engineers on the team to become independent Anchor/Team Lead.Aware of importance of managing vendor relationships, both for hiring contractors as well as for managing 3rd-party SDK’s owned by teamMastery managing and growing team members in a professional setting: quality team meetings and 1:1’sExperience with translating team’s roadmap to efficient executionMastery balancing team workload against product roadmapSkilled in writing queries against a databaseSkilled in a modern scripting language (preferably Python)Knowledgeable of a modern web applications utilizing technologies such as ReactJS and Node.js
