**Job Description**
This is a full-time contract position based in San Jose, CA, with the expectation of on-site availability at a moment’s notice. The company is a global provider of legal, regulatory, and business information and analytics, with multiple business arms, including a big presence in risk solutions and fraud prevention. The team works with petabytes of data across multiple databases, powering mission-critical fraud prevention and identity verification systems.
In this role, you’ll contribute to a highly skilled engineering group spread between Sydney, Australia, and San Jose, CA, collaborating closely to process and optimize massive datasets under tight performance constraints.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer III with expertise in Snowflake, Big Data platforms (Hadoop, Kafka, NoSQL), and Java/Go/SQL to design, develop, and support high-volume, high-reliability data solutions. You’ll be working in an Agile environment, interfacing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, mentoring junior engineers, and helping to drive best practices in large-scale data processing. This is a high-impact position for someone passionate about solving complex data challenges and improving system efficiency at scale.
**Contract Duration** : 6 – 12 months
**Required Skills & Experience**
+ 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on data-intensive applications
+ Advanced skills in Java or Go, and strong SQL expertise
+ Hands-on experience with Snowflake and big data ecosystems (Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, NoSQL databases)
+ Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for data processing and storage
+ Strong understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and ETL pipeline design
+ Experience with real-time data streaming and performance optimization at scale
+ Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD workflows a plus
+ Prior work in fraud prevention, risk analytics, or financial services environments a bonus
+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with globally distributed teams
**What You Will Be Doing**

+ Design, develop, and maintain high-performance data storage and retrieval systems supporting global fraud prevention and identity verification services
+ Build and optimize ETL pipelines to process and analyze petabytes of customer and transaction data from multiple sources
+ Work with Snowflake, Hadoop, Kafka, and NoSQL technologies to enable real-time and batch data processing
+ Collaborate closely with engineering teams in San Jose and Sydney to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable data solutions
+ Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune systems for maximum performance and uptime
+ Contribute to architectural decisions and best practices for large-scale data engineering
+ Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions to improve development efficiency and quality

+ **50%** Backend and Big Data engineering (Java/Go development, Snowflake, Hadoop, Kafka, NoSQL)
+ **30%** Data pipeline design, ETL/ELT workflows, and performance optimization at scale
+ **20%** Cross-functional collaboration with product, analytics, and global engineering teams (San Jose & Sydney)
**Daily Responsibilities**
+ Develop, maintain, and optimize high-throughput backend services and big data pipelines
+ Write clean, efficient, and scalable code in Java and Go for data processing applications
+ Design and implement ETL/ELT workflows to handle structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
+ Manage Snowflake and Hadoop environments, ensuring availability, scalability, and performance
+ Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in real-time data streaming with Kafka
+ Collaborate with distributed engineering teams across San Jose and Sydney to align on architecture and project goals
+ Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and standups to maintain code quality and delivery timelines
+ Contribute to system design discussions, recommending tools, frameworks, and best practices
+ Implement security and compliance measures for handling sensitive financial and identity data
