**About the Role** As a Software Engineer in the Maps organization, you will play a crucial role in developing Uber's geospatial capabilities powering critical flows across Uber including location search, turn by turn navigation, real-time location tracking, routing algorithms, ETA predictions, etc. The Maps organization is focused on providing the platforms, experiences, and ML algorithms which power hundreds of other backend services + mobile apps throughout Uber including Rider, Eater, and Driver apps. This work directly impacts the efficiency and reliability of Uber's core operations, including moving people, food, and groceries from point A to point B. **Basic Qualifications** - A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Masters preferred. - **3 + years**of experience in professional software development experience, developing and deploying systems in production environments - Knowledge of different compilation steps (and ability to fix) in languages such as Go, C, C++, or Java - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document architectures and algorithms. - Experience with Software Engineering Best Practices. ## **What the Candidate Will Do** - Develop and implement scalable APIs called by 100s of downstream dependencies across Uber - Collaborate across teams within and outside of Maps (Search, Location, Routing, Display, Navigation, etc) to build cohesive end-to-end experiences for our users - Utilize software development best practices to ensure systems are reliable (monitoring, alerting, logging, etc) - Design and document architectural solutions to complex engineering problems ## **Preferred Qualifications** - Experience with Maps technology - Experience with Go, Java - Experience with large scale distributed systems For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
