Software Engineer II
**About the Role** Our team has grown a lot in the last few years (currently 2K+ yarn nodes, 2800+ pipelines). As part of the Athena team, you will design, implement, optimize, and manage large scale streaming computing infrastructure. You will work on problems like unification of stream and batch, common DSL for streaming analytics, streaming ingestion for data lake, and minimum downtime support that will impact multiple business use cases at Uber scale. At the same time, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the open source community for Flink, Presto, Pinot, and Kafka. **What you'll do** **Explore and Master Uber-Scale Big Data Systems** 1. Gain deep, hands-on exposure to the internals of Uber’s large-scale, real-time data infrastructure. Understand how high-throughput data systems operate and evolve in one of the world's most demanding environments. **Advance Apache Flink Internals** 1. Dive deep into the core of **Apache Flink**, enhancing its capabilities to meet Uber's needs. **Collaborate Across the Ecosystem** 1. Partner with teams across Uber—from infrastructure to product engineering—to design and deliver **cross-functional, end-to-end data solutions**. Influence architecture and data strategy through tight collaboration. **Contribute to the Flink Open Source Community** 1. Represent Uber in the Flink community by **making core code contributions**, sharing insights through talks and blog posts, and actively participating in working groups and conferences. **What you'll need** Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. 2+ years of total experience Solid understanding of Java for backend / systems software development. MS / PhD in Computer Science or related field. Experience working with Apache Flink, Apache Samza/Storm, Apache Calcite, Apache Spark or similar analytics technologies. Experience working with Large Scale distributed systems, HDFS / Yarn / Kubernetes Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better.
