Software Engineer I/II

Job Description:

Genie Industries is a global leader in aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, booms, and light towers. As part of our Controls System Engineering team, you’ll design, implement, and validate real‑time embedded firmware that powers our next‑generation hydraulic and electrical control systems. You’ll work in a collaborative Agile environment, partnering with mechanical, electrical, and test engineers to bring robust, safety‑critical products to market.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Architect and implement embedded firmware for safety‑critical hydraulic and electrical control systems; operate and test the firmware on prototype and production machinesIntegrate and configure RTOS tasks, interrupts, and memory managementDevelop and debug device drivers and board bring‑upDrive the full software lifecycle: author specifications, lead design reviews, write unit/integration tests and automate CI/CD pipelinesParticipate in cross‑functional safety analyses, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives

REQUIRED SKILLS

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics Computer Engineering or Computer ScienceAdvanced English skillsSolid understanding of embedded firmware development in C; comfortable with C++ (STL, OOD)Hands‑on experience with RTOS concepts (task scheduling, preemption, deadlock avoidance)Understanding of microcontrollers (ARM Cortex‑M series) and peripherals (ADC, GPIO, PWM)Experienced with JTAG/ICE debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimetersFamiliarity with CAN bus/J1939 protocols and diagnosticsTDD mindset: code reviews, unit testing frameworks, and continuous integrationStrong verbal and written communication; collaborative, self‑driven work style

DESIRED SKILLS

Python or Bash scripting for test automation and build toolingProficiency with Git workflows, Jira, and Agile/Scrum ceremoniesExposure to functional safety standardsMechanical aptitude and ability to interpret electrical schematicsExperience with PCB debugging and repair or cable‑harness assembly
