We are looking for a Software Engineer to join Thales in Austin, TX.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in the development of cutting-edge software solutions for state and local government agencies to issue official documents (Driver’s License, ID cards), or to leverage our biometric products for ensuring public safety.
You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, leveraging your technical expertise to contribute to the successful delivery of our projects and drive innovation within our products.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements
Must have U.S. or Dual Citizenship and be able to obtain post-hire clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investments in the U.S. (CFIUS) and Department of Treasury.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, document, develop, and deploy software solutions related to identity management and biometrics in a cloud environment.
Participate in the full software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, coding, testing, and maintenance.
Develop high-quality, efficient, and scalable code adhering to industry best practices and coding standards within specified timelines.
Conduct thorough testing and debugging of software applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends to enhance technical skills and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.
Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand user requirements, document functional specifications, and translate them into technical requirements.
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure the quality and consistency of the software codebase.
Contribute to documentation, including system specifications, user manuals, and technical reports.
Work independently and collaboratively with a team of Software Engineers and Architects.
Interact with customers during project implementation and provide escalated Level 3 support for bug resolution.
Support sales and bidding teams in crafting winning bids and responses, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in field (or foreign equivalent) with 5 years of relative experience in software engineering, with good understanding of software engineering practices and processes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
Proven expertise in modern software development using tools such as C#, .Net, Java, and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular 9 and 16).
Proficiency in version control systems including git and mercurial (hg).
In-depth understanding of software security, including application development, data protection in transit and at rest.
Experience in data modeling and querying with SQL Server and MySQL.
Familiarity with software development methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall.
Knowledge of best practices for web API design, usability, and security.
Strong understanding of best practices for server application architecture and development.
Knowledge of cloud-based architectures and services (AWS, Azure)
Proactive with ability to take decisions in uncertain and ambiguous contexts.

Total Target Cash (TTC): 117,450.00 - 156,600.00 - 195,750.00 USD AnnualThis reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
