Systems R&D Chief Software Engineer
The NI Transportation Systems R&D team is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Chief Software Engineer to lead the development of advanced Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems for automotive and autonomous vehicle applications. This role is pivotal in architecting and delivering scalable, high-performance software solutions that integrate with NI VeriStand, enabling real-time simulation and testing of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) sensors and control units.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the design, development, and deployment of HIL test systems, from concept through production release.
· Architect and implement custom software extensions and plugins for NI VeriStand to support complex HIL configurations and real-time test orchestration.
· Lead the integration of sensor simulation models (e.g., radar, LiDAR, camera, ultrasonic) into the HIL environment, ensuring accurate and synchronized simulation of ADAS scenarios.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineers, test engineers, and hardware developers to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration.
· Drive software quality, performance, and maintainability through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration practices.
· Mentor and guide a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and accountability.
· Stay current with industry trends in automotive simulation, real-time systems, and model-based design to inform technology strategy.
Position Requirements
· BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
· 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership role.
Preferred Qualifications
· Deep expertise in real-time systems, VeriStand, and LabVIEW, with strong proficiency in C/C++, Python, or similar languages.
· Proven experience in HIL system development for automotive or aerospace applications.
· Familiarity with ADAS technologies, sensor fusion, and simulation tools.
· Strong understanding of software architecture, embedded systems, and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet, XCP).
· Strong understanding of Agile methodologies
· Experience using Azure DevOps for development projects
· Demonstrated experience in development of integrated hardware and software projects
