Software Engineer, OpenShift Managed Services (Quality Focus)

About the Job

The Red Hat Engineering team is actively seeking a Software Engineer with a strong Quality Focus  to join its OpenShift Cluster Lifecycle team. This team is responsible for provisioning and lifecycling Managed OpenShift services across major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and shipping reliable production-ready features and enhancements for managed Red Hat OpenShift platforms. Success in this position requires excellent technical and communication skills, as you'll be collaborating closely on a variety of engineering disciplines, including Development, Site Reliability, Performance, and with Architects both within Red Hat and across the open source community.

What You Will Do

Playing an active part in designing and developing new features and enhancements for various projects centered around Managed OpenShift.

Taking primary responsibility for product quality, you will design, develop, and execute comprehensive test strategies, including owning automated test suites and fostering a quality-focused culture by empowering the team to rigorously test, identify failure points, and 'break things' to build more resilient and reliable solutions.

Championing automation of operational and testing workflows to continuously improve the development lifecycle and ensure robust continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) processes 

Participating in AI-assisted code review including design and architectural reviews, offering crucial feedback on functionality, scalability, and performance.

Coordinating effectively with team leads, SREs, architects, and other engineers on product design and architecture decisions, with a keen eye on testability and quality attributes.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive the adoption of AI in our engineering practices and share successful use cases.

Publicizing the team's valuable work through various channels such as blogs, web postings, and conference talks.

What You Will Bring

2+ years of professional experience working in a Linux environment, demonstrating proficiency in at least one programming language such as Golang, Python, Java, C, or C++ 

Demonstrated experience with microservices architecture and concepts, including a solid understanding of APIs, versioning strategies, and monitoring tools

Proficiency in testing methodologies, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.

Knowledge of at least one major cloud provider, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.

Hands-on experience with container-related technologies like Kubernetes or OpenShift, or expertise in virtualization or distributed systems.

Hands-on experience with CI/CD technologies and test automation frameworks and tools.

Proven expertise in troubleshooting and root cause analysis

Proficient in Agile Methodology(e.g., Scrum, Kanban), TDD, BDD.

Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) concepts, particularly as they apply to operational optimization, intelligent automation, or data analysis

Practical experience applying AI-assisted tools to improve code quality, accelerate development cycles, and enhance problem-solving.

A proven ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to evolving technical landscapes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

A Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience is required.

The Following Are Considered a Plus

Industry experience with OpenShift or a Kubernetes distribution.

Experience in open source development

Industry experience of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Compute Engine (GCE), or Microsoft Azure.

Industry experience with AI or ML tools, particularly as they apply to operational optimization, intelligent automation, or data analysis.

The salary range for this position is $94,550.00 - $151,170.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
