Software Development Engineer, Foundational AI Applications
Are you looking to work at the forefront of AI tools that solve real problems for Amazonians?

Amazon Foundational AI Applications, part of Enterprise Engineering, designs, develops, and operates AI-enhanced business productivity applications that help Amazonians focus on high-value work. We are blazing the trail -- identifying new ways to work that large language models (LLMs) can support -- and building tools that help.

We're creating tools that connect to, collect, interpret, and summarize data from internal data sources. We take that knowledge and turn it into summaries and insights that can be used for report writing, trend analysis, and more - solving hard problems that might otherwise require tedious searching, data assembly, retyping and reformatting.

Our current key project helps Amazonians with creating their business review documents - MBRs and QBRs are created and reviewed Amazon-wide.

You'll be using the latest LLM integration features (such as implementing MCP) to connect data to our AI engines, and wiring assistant features into the productivity tools Amazonians already use, designing beautiful, seamless, easy-to-use experiences that delight our customers.

We're building what's next. Join us!

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer on the AI Applications team, you will:

- Create MCP servers that provide data from internal services
- Design core APIs that are LLM and MCP compatible
- Document best-practices for implementing MCP capabilities in services
- Assist service teams with adding these to existing services through direct development and SME assistance
- Work with product management teams to shape ideas for new tools and workflows that would otherwise not be possible or practical without AI, and be part of building them

About the team
The Foundational AI Applications team consists of Amazonians with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. We use that perspective to think big and broadly, to create new productivity experiences that are now possible through the existence of LLMs interconnected with business data platforms. We are building tools like code and text prediction to the next level of capability and scope, building meaning and context understanding into our tools and helping Amazonians express their ideas alongside data that supports them.
