What you'll doThe SAM Portfolio Lead is responsible for the strategic management and optimization of the organization's software portfolio with a focus on "big rock" publishers. This role serves as the primary point of contact for major software vendors, drives cost optimization initiatives, and ensures compliance while providing advisory services across the organization. As part of the SAM Center of Excellence, this position plays a crucial role in balancing software licensing costs, compliance requirements, and business needs.
Optimize software licensing costs while maintaining compliance with vendor agreements
Lead and coordinate effective audit defense strategies to minimize financial exposure and business disruption
Streamline software portfolio management processes to eliminate complexity and drive efficiency
Identify and execute strategic cost-saving opportunities through co-terming, license reclamation, and application rationalization
Establish a single point of contact approach for major software publishers to enhance relationship management
Develop a holistic view of software assets across all business towers
Successful Candidates will have experience in:
Strategic Portfolio Management
Manage and optimize the software portfolio with focus on "big rock" publishers and licensing costs
Develop and report on a holistic view of software assets across all organizational towers
Identify opportunities for co-terming agreements to achieve cost savings
Establish a rigorous approach for identify reclamation and rationalization opportunities across the application portfolio and implement initiatives to drive cost savings
Lead monthly meetings with key vendors to maintain strong relationships
Serve as the primary point of contact for all inquiries related to software licensing questions and billing/invoicing questions
Compliance and Audit Support
Establish software compliance audit readiness and audit defense procedures
Provide audit consulting to stakeholders and drive audit resolution in coordination with Product teams, Legal, and Advisors
Coordinate with Legal and GS&P on compliance matters
Work with internal teams on compliance issues, right-sizing, advisory support, and contract renewals
Manage true-ups, including compliance position assessments with outside vendors
Lead and collaborate with Application Development, Procurement, and Vendor Management on publisher-related activities
Financial Management
Work with Finance for budgeting and manage administrative processes related to software assets
Attend cost savings meetings and report on achievements
Work with finance, GS&P, and product teams to identify a pipeline of cost-saving opportunities
Track and report on portfolio optimization metrics and cost-saving initiatives
Process Optimization
Drive continuous process improvements related to software asset management in collaboration with Governance Lead
Drive efficiency in software lifecycle management processes including end of life
Reduce complexity in software portfolio management
Serve as the expert layer between SAM manager, SAM analysts, and SoftwareOne
Implement best practices for software license optimization and management
Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in software asset management, vendor management, or IT procurement
3+ years of experience managing enterprise software licensing for major publishers (Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP, etc.)
Strong understanding of software licensing models, metrics, and contract structures
Demonstrated success in cost optimization and vendor negotiations
Experience with software compliance audits and remediation
Excellent communication skills with ability to interface with executives and vendors
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Preferred Skills
Relevant certifications (CSAM, CITAM, ITIL)
Experience with ServiceNow SAM or similar SAM tools
Background in IT finance or procurement
Knowledge of software publisher-specific licensing programs and metrics
Experience in a global or multi-regional organization
Familiarity with SoftwareOne or similar SAM service providers

This role is part of the SAM Center of Excellence Team and requires a strategic mindset combined with attention to detail. The position involves regular interaction with senior leadership, vendor representatives, and cross-functional teams. The role may require occasional travel to support vendor meetings and internal stakeholder engagement.

Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.
