Small Animal Surgeon

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced small animal surgeon (purely soft tissue or mixed soft tissue and orthopaedics) to join Northwest Veterinary Specialists. 

The applicant needs to be a board certified (ECVS/ACVS/RCVS) surgeon. The successful applicant must be keen to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.  Progression into a leadership role within the surgery department may also be possible if the applicant is keen to drive the future direction of the team however this is not a compulsory element. Our surgery department currently consists of 2 ECVS diplomates, 2 post ECVS residency clinicians, and one 3rd year ECVS resident.

This exciting role will require the candidate to:

Provide clinical services as a specialist consultant in surgery cases.

Support and develop the surgery team, in particular by supervising and teaching residents, interns, and nurses

Work collaboratively with all other services and foster good interdepartmental relationships

Demonstrate professional standards that will advance patient care.

Contribute fully to an equal share of the out of hours rota with time off in lieu following weekend cover.

Northwest Veterinary Specialists is a leading referral-only specialist small animal hospital in Cheshire.  We are a true multidisciplinary hospital with departments in orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, oncology, anaesthesia, dermatology and diagnostic imaging.  Each of the clinical disciplines is staffed to European Diplomate or RCVS Specialist standards.  We run European approved residency programmes in small animal surgery, neurology, internal medicine and oncology.  The hospital is equipped to a very high standard and provides excellent inpatient facilities with qualified RVNs and veterinary interns on-site 24/7.  Imaging includes computed radiography, fluoroscopy (C-arm with digital subtraction and road-mapping), ultrasonography and on-site high-field 1.5T MRI.

Specific experience/qualification/status/citizenship requirements

You must fulfil the following requirements:

Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Have an excellent command of written and spoken English

Maintain a professional and caring approach in all aspects of your work

Provide evidence of your Right to Work in the UK

Full-time – 40 hours week which can be worked over a 4 or 5 day period at applicant’s request.
