Job Description
The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) is one of the largest prosecutors’ offices in the country and is committed to developing and implementing innovative prosecutorial strategies that will fulfill our vision of keeping Brooklyn safe while at the same time ensuring fairness and justice for all. KCDA has an exciting opportunity to work as a Social Worker in the Bureau of Youth Diversion.
The Bureau of Youth Diversion (BYD) oversees Youth and Community in Partnership (YCP) and Project Re-Direct (PRD), alternative to incarceration programs, which serve court involved young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 facing mandatory minimum sentences. PRD and YCP elements include the following: individual counseling, group counseling and related activities. Additionally, social workers help with social skills training, conflict resolution, crisis management, fulfillment of court mandates, and referrals to community-based service providers and advocates.
The Social Worker will be part of a team focused on youth diversion. The running caseload is expected to be between 15 and 20 clients.
Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the prospective candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Maintain on-call availability on a 24/7 basis.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments for PRD and YCP candidates and create individualized treatment plans for participants.
- Provide individual as well as group therapy to participants as needed.
- Facilitate psychosocial groups.
- Provide case management for participants. This includes providing referral assistance with regard to the participant’s needs (e.g. housing, food, health, financial, home life situations) including the facilitation of referrals for additional mental health or substance abuse treatment and family counseling as needed. This also includes home visits or relevant site visits as necessary, and preparation of complete periodic updates with appropriate documentation.
- Fulfill all court mandates and reporting and fulfill/assist with any regulatory compliance or grant-related compliance.
- Provide supervision for interns and (if LCSW) other social workers as needed.
- Develop and implement training for PRD and YCP mentors as needed.
- Interact constructively with staff affiliated with the other diversion program (PRD).
- Handle additional tasks as directed.
Additional Information
Candidates must meet the additional requirements:
- Must have a Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.
- Must have a valid Licensed Master of Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Must have at least 2+ years of work experience in Social Work.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines are necessary.
- Bilingual candidates preferred.
- Knowledge of counseling interventions with trauma victims.

- Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office application.
- Exceptional organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work both independently and within a team environment is a plus.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
