Job Description

​AECOM is seeking a Junior Social Specialist to work in its Panama offices.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Stakeholder Engagement & Consultation

Design and implement inclusive stakeholder engagement strategies.Facilitate public consultations, community meetings, and workshops.Build and maintain relationships with local communities, NGOs, and government entities.

Social Risk Analysis

Conduct social impact assessments and risk analyses for infrastructure projects.Investigate how social risks are perceived and managed within broader social contexts.Identify vulnerable groups and propose mitigation strategies.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure alignment with IFC Performance Standards, especially PS1 (Assessment and Management of Environmental and Social Risks and Impacts), PS4 (Community Health, Safety, and Security), and PS5 (Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement).Monitor compliance with Panamanian EIA regulations and other relevant local laws.Support the preparation and review of EIA documentation and social management plans.

Reporting & Documentation

Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.Track and report on social performance indicators and grievance mechanisms.

Capacity Building & Internal Support

Provide training and guidance to project teams on social sustainability and stakeholder engagement.Collaborate with environmental, legal, and technical teams to integrate social considerations into project planning.

Panamanian law requires that professionals involved in social processes related to EIA demonstrate idoneidad (professional suitability).

 

Qualifications

Minimum requisitions:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, or related field with +4 YORE or demonstrated equivalence of experience and/or education.Minimum of 3 years of experience in social performance, stakeholder engagement, or ESG consulting.Demonstrated experience with IFC Performance Standards and EIA processes in Panama.
Strong knowledge of Panamanian social and environmental legislation.Excellent communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills.Willingness to travel to construction sites and work in diverse cultural environments.

Preferred Requirements:

Experience with international development or financial institutions.Experience with environmental impact studies and baseline assessments.Experience in fieldwork, fieldwork, field regulations, availability to travel.Familiarity with conflict and grievance resolution mechanisms.Knowledge of Indigenous peoples' rights and livelihood restoration practices.Data analysis and visualization skills (Excel, GIS, etc.).
