OMEEOP: Secunda Ops
Purpose of JobProvide governance and expert support to control and instrumentation (C&I) fraternity in areas of technology, engineering and commissioning. This includes small project support i.e. scope/engineering reviews, technology selection, technical Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC), instrumentation/system installation and commissioning.
Lead and guide colleagues in terms of best practices and governance in the instrumentation & control and production fraternities to ensure plant availability and efficient operation
Support and drive investigations and apply analytical skills for root cause analysis (RCA)
Support and drive emerging C&I technology e.g. wireless, digitalisation, operator effectiveness, system interfacing / monitoring to improve Sasol operations by maximising availability and production outputs.
Manage interfaces with various disciplines (mechanical, electrical etc.) within Sasol Secunda, other Sasol OMEs and with external entities e.g. service providers, government offices etc.
Coaching and training of peers/colleagues/junior engineers in C&I requirements
Strong knowledge of international and local governance specifications and best practices and application to drive safe and reliable operations
Key AccountabilitiesBroad base of instrumentation and control engineering knowledge and competence relating to: • Field: Knowledge of, and technology selection for, field instrumentation and final element devices. • Process Automation Systems (PAS): Control and Safety Systems - DCS / PLC / ESD • Operational technology (OT): Critical Control Information Infrastructure (CCII) networks and communication, communication between control and safety • Process control: Control loop analysis and process controller troubleshooting. Configuring control strategies on various PAS systems • Human Machine Interface (HMI) design and governance • Providing input to Sasol specifications and engineering standards specifications/standards; • Knowledge of international and South African specifications and requirements as applied to C&I e.g. IEC, SANS, etc. • Review Sasol policies for applicability and implementation. • Ensure compliance with legal, safety and operational reliability requirements. • Functional and process safety requirements e.g. HAZOPs, LOPA, SILs, inventory isolation, hazardous areas, explosion prevention • Knowledge and use of emerging C&I technology e.g. wireless, digitalisation, operator effectiveness • Developing, maintaining and manage the discipline specific systems, tools, policies and procedures • Interpret and translate business requirements into an engineering strategy • Active practicing of interpersonal skills to ensure productive working relationships and to work with, or through, others inside and/or outside (including suppliers) the organisation to get work accomplished. • Oversee the management and safety of external service providers. Manage the service contracts in the budget applicable to function being managed. • Adhere to work standards and ensure it is met according to quality, quantity and due dates.
