**Job Description:**
General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) provides healthcare information technology services and resources to support the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
As a Snowflake DBA, you'll be responsible for designing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the Snowflake environment to support scalable and efficient data processing in the cloud. You will collaborate closely with ETL developers, data architects, security engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure that Snowflake supports enterprise-wide analytics, data integration, and reporting needs.
**In this role, a typical day will include:**
+ Attend daily stand-up scrum calls and participate in Agile team ceremonies.
+ Exercise strong interpersonal and communication skills while working independently and collaboratively within a high-performing agile team.
+ Administer and optimize enterprise-scale Snowflake environments with petabyte-scale datasets and high concurrency workloads.
+ Analyze complex business and technical requirements to design and implement performant and secure Snowflake database solutions.
+ Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, data engineers, and developers to define, design, build, and maintain scalable Snowflake database environments.
+ Design and optimize data architectures, partitioning strategies, and clustering keys for high-performance querying.
+ Implement robust data governance and security models including RBAC, masking, tagging, and access controls.
+ Support operational tasks and processes such as automation, orchestration, job scheduling, monitoring, performance tuning, and usage optimization.
+ Lead performance investigations, query tuning, and workload analysis using Snowflake’s Query Profile, Resource Monitors, and optimization tools.
+ Manage data ingestion strategies using various file formats (Parquet, JSON, Avro, ORC, Iceberg) and storage (AWS S3 etc.).
+ Establish and enforce Snowflake standards, best practices, and operational procedures including monitoring, alerting, tagging, and usage auditing.
+ Coordinate and execute data migration, backup, cloning, and restoration strategies at scale.
+ Implement and monitor data quality processes including validation, reconciliation, and lineage tracking.
+ Identify and implement continuous process improvements and drive automation initiatives.
+ Stay current with advancements in Snowflake features, best practices, and cloud-native data services.
+ May serve as a task or team lead for Snowflake-specific initiatives.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert in Snowflake administration and optimization at the enterprise scale.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**
+ BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
+ 5+ years of IT experience with deep expertise in database administration, with at least 2 years managing enterprise-scale Snowflake deployments.
+ Proven experience managing **petabyte-scale Snowflake environments** in production.
+ Experience in **cloud-native ETL/ELT** development using AWS Services, Databricks, or similar platforms.
+ Hands-on experience with **Python** , **Snowpark** and **PySpark**
+ Solid experience in **query optimization** , **resource management** , **Snowflake performance tuning** , and **capacity planning** .
+ Experience integrating Snowflake with **Amazon S3** , **IAM** , **PrivateLink** , and notification services (SNS, SES, Azure equivalents).
+ In-depth understanding of **data governance** , **data security** , **RBAC** , **audit logging** , **compliance frameworks** , **replication** , and **data masking** .
+ Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, and Agile development methodologies.
**DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:**
+ **Snowflake Snowpro Certifications** preferred
+ Prior experience supporting CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) or other federal healthcare IT environments strongly preferred.
+ Knowledge of **data modeling** , **semantic layer design** , **dimensional modeling** , and **schema optimization** for Snowflake.
+ Strong understanding of **data lineage** , **schema evolution** , and **data observability** practices.
+ Background in **data engineering** , **analytics** , or **BI/reporting** .
+ Familiarity with **cost optimization** techniques and Snowflake credit management.
+ Knowledge of **Infrastructure as Code (IaC)** using Terraform or CloudFormation.
**LOCATION** : Remote
**CLEARANCE** :
Ability to obtain a Public Trust: candidate must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years and pass a public trust background investigation.

The likely salary range for this position is $119,000 - $161,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
