Overview:
An SMT Engineer’s day involves ensuring that SMT production lines are running smoothly, troubleshooting any equipment or process issues that arise, programming new product setups, performing quality checks, and documenting processes to meet production goals.
Core Responsibilities
Equipment Management:
Set up, program, and operate SMT machinery, including stencil printers, pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens.
Process Optimization:
Drive continuous improvement in the SMT process to enhance efficiency, increase yields, and reduce defects.
Troubleshooting & Quality Control:
Analyze and resolve production issues, conduct defect analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Documentation:
Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and quality control standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work with design engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback and collaborate with production and quality teams.
Required Experience, Skills, etc.:
5 (five) years, minimum, industry work experience required in the following (except where otherwise noted):
• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of the SMT manufacturing process, including equipment, components, and materials.
• Skill required with this machine: Fuji (Nexim)
• Quality Standards: Familiarity with industry standards like IPC and J-STD-001.
• PTH skills will be a plus.
• Technical Documentation: Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
• Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills for training operators and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze process parameters, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
• Process Improvement Methodologies: Knowledge of tools like Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing to drive improvement initiatives.
