Smart Hands Technician – Data Center Operations

Hands-on, detail-oriented Smart Hands Technician to support day-to-day operations in AI data centre. This role is responsible for providing on-site technical support, including hardware installations, troubleshooting, cable management, and responding to remote requests from client production support team. The ideal candidate should have strong technical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a focus on uptime, quality, and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Perform rack and stack of servers, network devices, and other IT hardware. Execute physical hardware tasks such as installations, replacements, removals, upgrades, rack housekeeping etc. Manage and organize power and network cabling, ensuring best practices for labelling and documentation. Assist with troubleshooting hardware, connectivity, and environmental issues. Act as on-site hands for remote engineers (Smart Hands support), including:

o   Pressing buttons, reading screen outputs

o   Moving cables, reseating components

o   Swapping cards, cables or other hardware

Document work using ticketing systems, asset tracking tools, and checklists. Monitor and respond to s from environmental systems (temperature, humidity, power). Assist in inventory management and parts logistics. Support site audits, inspections, and compliance efforts.

Required Skills and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or technical certification preferred. 1-3 years of experience in data centre, IT support, or similar technical role. Basic knowledge of networking (cabling, ports, patch panels). Familiarity with server hardware components and troubleshooting processes. Comfortable working in physically demanding environments (lifting, crouching, repetitive tasks). Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures. 

Required Skills and Experience

Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, or Network+. Experience with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools. ITIL or ticketing system exposure (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 23 kgs and work on ladders or in tight spaces. Shift work may be required (including nights/weekends/on-call). Work should be performed in a climate-controlled data centre with extended periods of standing and walking.
