Summary Introduction:
We are seeking a Smart City Data Architect to lead the design and governance of data ecosystems that support smart city operations and digital services. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in data modeling, integration, governance, and analytics, particularly within urban and smart infrastructure contexts. The Data Architect will ensure that smart city data is accessible, secure, and usable for city leaders, citizens, and technology platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain smart city data architectures, including data models, data flow diagrams, and integration blueprints.Define and implement data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data quality standards across smart city platforms.Design and oversee data integration between IoT devices, city systems, cloud platforms, and digital applications.Collaborate with solution architects, application teams, and domain experts to ensure data alignment across smart city use cases.Support the development of urban analytics, dashboards, and digital twins by ensuring data availability, consistency, and interoperability.Ensure compliance with data privacy laws, ethical AI principles, and cybersecurity policies.Contribute to open data strategies and facilitate secure data sharing between public and private sector stakeholders.Provide data architecture inputs to procurement processes, vendor evaluations, and technology roadmap development.Promote a data-driven culture within the city or organization through capacity building and training.QualificationsRequired Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management.At least 3 years of experience in smart city, urban innovation, or public sector data projects.Proven experience designing scalable and secure data platforms and integrations.Proficiency in data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, big data platforms, and cloud-based data services (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).Familiarity with open data standards, smart city frameworks (e.g., FIWARE, OASC), and IoT data ingestion.Experience in using tools like Power BI, Tableau, ArcGIS, and digital twin platforms.Strong analytical and communication skills to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Bilingual (English and Arabic) is highly desirable.Certification in data architecture, data governance, or cloud data services (e.g., DAMA, CDMP, Azure Data Architect, GCP Data Engineer).Experience with AI/ML model integration and smart city analytics platforms.Knowledge of international standards such as ISO 37120, ISO 8000, or INSPIRE.Additional InformationBusiness Unit: Strategy & Transformation
