Under general supervision sets up and monitors sleep disorder tests. Scores and evaluates polysomnograms. Performs routine maintenance of sleep lab equipment. Acts as primary contact in providing physicians, patients and Outreach accounts with diagnostic information and consultation regarding all aspects of sleep disorders.
Essential Job Functions
•Maintains ongoing knowledge on current trends and techniques in the field of sleep disorders.
•Performs a variety of standard protocols for sleep disorders testing. Includes setting up and monitoring the patient over a six- to- eight-hour period.
•Performs all forms of sleep studies except MSLT studies.
•Inputs test data, generates and distributes reports to referring physicians and facilities. Completes reports necessary for certifications of medical necessity and insurance reimbursement.
•Consults with physicians, Outreach accounts, home care companies and patients regarding diagnosis, treatment and outcome of patients with sleep disorders.
•Monitors and assists in maintaining sleep lab equipment.
•Researches and provides diagnostic information for rare types of sleep disorders.
•Orders daily supplies for sleep lab.
•Provides education and in-service for Outreach accounts and groups or individuals interested in sleep disorders.
•Provides patient education to include CPAP/BIPAP set ups.
•Considers the appropriateness of care based on the population specific needs of the patient.
•Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.
•Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory system/department requirements.
•Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.
•Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
•High School or GED High School diploma or GED required
•Completion of an approved course for Polysomnographic Technologists or LPN currently enrolled in accredited A-STEP program, required
Certifications and Licenses
•Certified in Basic Life Support and PALS or equivalent or PALS certification to be obtained, within one year of hire
