Skills Trainer Job Details Level Experienced Job Location VOCATIONAL PROGRAM - TORRINGTON, CT Position Type Full Time Job Shift 1st Shift Job Posting Date(s) Start Date 06/24/2025 Description The Project SEARCH Skills Trainer provides on-site job coaching and individualized support to young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) participating in a transition-to-work internship program. This role supports interns in learning job tasks, building independence, and preparing for competitive employment in an inclusive work environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Accompany interns to job interviews and assist with onboarding or follow-up as needed. + Provide hands-on training to interns at various host site departments. + Provide individualized support for Project SEARCH interns during program hours, including classroom support and training in internship tasks. Support interns in meeting productivity and behavior expectations. + Foster social and workplace communication skills. + Help interns build natural supports and relationships with coworkers. + Create and implement a task analysis of all skills to be taught and to teach through recommended training techniques (i.e. Gentle Teaching). Assist in breaking down tasks and using visual, verbal, or physical prompts as needed. + Adapt strategies to meet individual intern learning styles and needs. + Follow through with all designed behavior management programs, activities of daily living programs, and other programs developed to increase individual abilities. + Maintain accurate daily documentation records for each assigned individual. Document intern progress and maintain daily notes. + Communicate with Project SEARCH Manager regarding issues that may affect success at an internship or in employment, including but not limited to skills training, fading of supports, job tasks, etc. + Communicate progress, concerns, and goals with the Project SEARCH instructor and host site supervisors. + Adhere to placement program requirements, including proof of immunizations and any mandatory vaccines or boosters. + Participate in team meetings, family conferences, and professional development. Qualifications + Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. An associate's or bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, or a related field is preferred. + At least two years’ experience in job coaching, career development, or a related field with individuals with disabilities. + Have excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills. + Basic computer and good verbal and written communication skills + Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including different sites and/or programs as needed. + Must have a current CT driver’s license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
