Your impact
Guide and manage all site specific supply chain (SC) functional areas by developing site specific policies, controlling risk in contracting strategies, supervising budgeting and operational tasks, advancing site safety and sustainability efforts, encouraging continual progress, and nurturing strategic partnerships to align with corporate and region principles, while shaping a skilled, motivated, and varied SC workforce.
As Part of Our Team You Will
In this role, the individual will:
Lead a team of professionals to formulate and execute Site Supply Chain Management Strategies and implement all enterprise strategies on site.
Coordinate alignment with regional teams and site-specific commercial, enterprise, and business unit strategies.
Coordinate all safety initiatives by ensuring SC team members and contractors follow safety protocols, maintaining a healthy environment, implementing critical controls to eliminate fatalities and reduce health exposures, enhancing the quality of pre-start meetings and SPE investigations, fostering a safety-focused culture, and overseeing regional transportation and logistics standards.
Coordinate site sourcing and procurement, including sustaining capital projects, by identifying local suppliers, negotiating contracts, and handling key supplier relationships.
Coordinate the site SC budgeting process, forecast costs, monitor expenditures, review and approve site capital expenditures, and ensure SC operations remain within agreed yearly budgets.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field required. Advanced degrees, such as an MBA in supply chain or procurement, are advantageous. Broad business knowledge and focus, ability to recognize issues, problems and capitalize on opportunities. In-depth understanding of procurement and contract management processes, especially in the mining sector, including sourcing, tendering, contract negotiation, and vendor management.
Knowledge of supply chain management systems and their use in procurement, inventory control, and vendor management.
Strong understanding of mining operations, including the types of materials and services required to maintain continuous production.Knowledge of local supplier development and engagement strategies, particularly for building capacity and sustainability among local contractors and vendors.
Familiarity with local procurement policies and practices and a deep understanding of local markets is required. Experience in sourcing, negotiations, and procurement for services and goods in oil & gas, mining or environmental and/or engineering industries. Experience in a leadership role within a mining or heavy industry environment.
Familiarity with contract management software and SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Proven experience in monitoring contractor performance, managing KPIs, and conducting contract audits or reviews. Proven experience in managing local procurement operations, including developing relationships with local suppliers and contractors, and supplier evaluation. Experience working in a site-based role where materials and equipment procurement supports day-to-day operations, and an understanding of how delays or shortages impact productivity. Demonstrated successes in attracting and retaining a high-performing team, creating a teamwork environment built on coaching, development, and accountability for achieving results.
Business acumen and commercial management skills related to procurement regulations and best practices in the country
This position is located at Merian, project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment
The Merian mine is located in Northeastern Suriname, approximately 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo and 60 kilometers south of Moengo.
Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace
Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons, with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year
The individual is required to work 6 weeks at the site, a 3-week off, fly-in, fly-out arrangement with expat benefits. The incumbent is expected to spend most of her/his time in the field.
The position may require traveling to the Denver corporate office and assisting at other American sites.
