Responsibilities The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for directing and managing occupational safety, health and industrial hygiene functions within the NSGB Program. The SSHO must implement a safety program that ensures full compliance with all Military requirements specified in EM 385-1-1 and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The SSHO is responsible for the Safety Program implementation and safety training of the workforce. Reporting indirectly to the Program Manager and Corporate Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) Director, the SSHO will create and maintain safety and health documentation to ensure processes reflect current best practices. Promote safety culture and policies by training the workforce in safety principles and objectives. Plans, coordinates, administers, and oversees all Safety and Health Program activity carried out by Corporate ESH. Conducts facility surveys (staff assistance visits and audits) to evaluate the effectiveness of local programs and identify areas of nonconformance or potential liability for the program. Assists project management in developing and implementing Action Plans, leading to successful mitigation or elimination of adversities. Conducts follow-on monitoring to keep senior management informed of progress and attainment of desired outcomes. Provides professional guidance and advice regarding conformance with current and anticipated worker protection and safety standards. Reviews current and updated worker protection laws, standards, and regulations and identifies requirement changes to management. Develops and implements programs to address new requirements and concerns. Sponsors and facilitates Corporate-directed ESH audits. Reviews data and provides reports for monthly Goal Deployment Process (GDP), as well as reports for the Quarterly Progress Report. Coordinates, and has oversight responsibility for, the conduct of the Occupational Health Program. Reviews job requirements and identifies to management those work processes with known inherent occupational exposures that can adversely impact an employee’s health. Compiles and analyzes accident, injury, and property loss data to identify root-cause relationships and trends that can adversely impact workers’ compensation costs. Assists management with formulating Corrective Action Plans to reduce incidents and lower insurance-related costs. Reviews operational plans and specifications for project start-ups or close-outs to ensure that appropriate safety and health considerations are addressed, and the requirements are carried out. Develops and supports achievement of performance metrics for the corporate ESH. Will supervise other safety department workers. Performs other duties and assignments as required. Qualifications Education/Certifications: High School Diploma Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Safety or Safety and Health Degree Preferred Must be able to pass a background check and medical check. Experience: Five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past or three years' experience if possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree. The SSHO shall have completed the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent and maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety and health related coursework every four years. Military experience in safety and health management preferred. Skills: Must possess excellent computer, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Must be able to maintain competency IAW EM385-1-1 requirements. Must be able to work in PPE up to and including All employees must have proof of U.S. Citizenship and a valid state driver’s license and must be eligible for access throughout the project geographic scope.
