**DESCRIPTION**
We are looking for a talented Site Quality Engineer - Senior to join our team specializing in quality for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN.
**In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:**
**Drive Rapid Issue Resolution**
By managing systems related to plant customer issues and leading containment activities, you'll ensure swift and effective responses to quality concerns, minimizing disruption and maintaining customer trust.
**Ensure Compliance with Quality Standards**
You'll play a key role in upholding rigorous quality standards (IATF, APQP, PPAP, etc.), ensuring both products and processes meet initial and long-term compliance requirements.
**Lead Change Management for Product Introductions**
Through your involvement in Value Package Introduction (VPI) and change management, you'll verify that new and modified products meet performance expectations, supporting smooth transitions and launches.
**Support Data-Driven Decision Making**
By analyzing quality data and metrics, you'll provide valuable insights that guide strategic decisions and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.
**Strengthen Audit Readiness and Execution**
Your leadership in quality audits will help maintain a state of readiness, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce a culture of accountability and excellence.
**Act as a Cross-Functional Quality Expert**
Serving as a technical resource, you'll support and mentor other teams, fostering a collaborative environment and elevating the overall quality knowledge base.
**Champion Continuous Improvement Initiatives**
By applying methodologies like lean manufacturing and 7-step problem solving, you'll lead efforts to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
**Support Safe Launch and Risk Mitigation**
Your involvement in Safe Launch initiatives will help identify and mitigate risks early in the product lifecycle, ensuring a smooth and successful market entry.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**To be successful in this role you will need the following:**
**Strong Customer-Centric Communication**
Success in this role requires the ability to build trust with internal and external customers by delivering clear, tailored communication that addresses their unique needs and expectations—especially when resolving quality issues or leading change initiatives.
**Deep Technical and Manufacturing Knowledge**
A solid understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems (like APQP, PPAP, FMEA), and measurement science is essential to implement effective quality controls, support continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
**Leadership in Quality and Continuous Improvement**
You’ll need to influence cross-functional teams, lead problem-solving efforts using structured methodologies (e.g., 7-step, IQTM), and drive quality-focused decisions that balance stakeholder input with long-term business goals.
**Digital Fluency and Project Management Skills**
Leveraging Quality 4.0 tools and project management capabilities will be critical to managing complex initiatives, ensuring timely product launches, and driving data-driven improvements across systems and processes.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education/Experience:**
Demonstrated role competence is required. College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject or experience equivalent is required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Intermediate level of experience required. Preferably 3-5 years’ experience in Manufacturing, Engineering or Program Management role in the automotive industry or a similarly regulated industry. Minimum of 2 years of related manufacturing or quality experience required.
**Additional Details:**
Address quality issues and drive improvements on the production floor such as creating processes and implementing failsafes. Work with Engineering, Supplier Quality, and operations to execute process and product screenings. Analyze IPV data to determine quality performance and identify quality improvements.
Technical decision making and problem solving, root cause analysis and resolution of non-conformances. Compares the physical characteristics of components, materials, equipment and products to technical specifications to identify defects. Conducts simple tests. Records results and prepares quality reports.
Responsible for Quality KPI (RFT and Scrap) for the assigned assembly line, as well as responsible for customer and supplier RMAs (returns) and problem solving resolution
Maintain the EQMS in accordance with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards while being involved in the daily non conformance, PPAP, PFMEA and Control Plans
Lead internal and external audits, including preparation, execution, and follow-up on corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements and regulatory standards as well as leading customer visits
Analyze quality data and metrics to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Drive continues improvements of new technology and products in the electrification business to prepare for scaling production.
