Title: SIGN PAINTER (VISUAL MERCHANDISER) Location: United States-Illinois-Great Lakes Job Number: 250001X4 Job Summary: Produces freehand and mechanical lettering silk screen printed signs and posters paints identifying markings on vehicles fabricates and decorates properties for display and visual merchandising for Navy Exchanges. Duties and Responsibilities: Designs a variety of freehand and mechanical elements involving layout decorating and producing traffic signs institutional and special events signs posters props and displays for the interior and exterior of Navy Exchange activities. Draws up preliminary layout design by freehand for required copy based on requisition requirements such as size type color. Refines lines and transfer to pounce board for perforation with an electro pounce. Pounces layout pattern with charcoal. Cuts materials to required size cleans and primes surface applies top coat and clear coat based on background requirements. - Hand paints signs artwork for special sale events utilizing quill and sable brushes. Mixes paint to required color paints giant props markings sign on vehicles boards metal trucks glass masonite oil cloth and poster boards based on promotional needs . Also produces nameplates and interior signs. - Prepares silk screens and produces multiple copies of numbers posters signs label plates safety precautions and training aids etc. Determines size style and type of lettering from specifications. Prepares illustrative material utilizing lettering pens. Transfers lettering or design to screen and blocks out all areas not to be printed. Reproduces design by drawing screen tightly over area to be imprinted and forcing paint with squeegee through areas of silk that have not been blocked out. Indentifies and corrects deficiencies on all work before released. - Assists Visual Merchandisers in constructing arranging and maintaining effective and artistic visual maerchandising arrangements in appropriate interior and exterior locations. Installs displays in designated areas to include showcases ledges shelves and fixtures. Sets up focal displays where appropriate to attract customer attention. These displays may be designed to support a seasonal theme and or a special merchandising event. Is required to visit branch locations to maintain visual merchandising presentation and display and provide assistance as needed. - Works with department managers and supervisors in connection with visual merchandising requirements including the designing and assembling of key department displays which highlight and identify featured merchandising column and shadow box displays depending upon the particular merchandise involved. - Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who provides necessary guidance and assistance. Work is received in the form of work orders and incumbent interprets same with considerable latitude for determining layout balance spacing colors and the full scope of the job. Determines steps required completes work orders using standard practices and established guidelines and or specifications. Work is reviewed for overall adequacy eye appeal and neatness of finished product. PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires continual movement of hands and arms standing reaching and bending as well as lifting materials up to 10 pounds. Occasionally some projects may require heavier effort in doing tasks such as erecting signs of displays kneeling to letter vehicles and equipment or climbing ladders. May assist in handling items weighing up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed indoors in adequately lighted and heated areas although some is performed outdoors in good weather.
