BlueScope Recycling is a full-service, ferrous scrap metal recycler with processing facilities in Waterloo, IN, Delta, OH, and Mansfield, OH. BlueScope Recycling buys scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers, and the general public, focusing on delivering the highest level of service.
Summary: The Shredder Operator is responsible for efficiently operating the shredder at optimal production rates with minimal downtime. The Shredder Operator is responsible for monitoring the material being fed into the mill, monitoring belts for blockages, and checking fluid levels on the shredder. This position requires strong visual and verbal skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Avoid potential hazards or obstructions while ensuring material is suitable for shredding and falls within size requirements.
Effectively communicate with the team
Alert team members in emergencies
Follow startup procedures daily
Assist in the maintenance of the shredder
Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
Controlling the shredder and its belts
Adhere to safe practices and procedures
Perform daily inspection of equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly, identify defects or needed repairs, and report to Supervisor.
Ability to be constantly aware of surroundings
Attend and participate in internal meetings and complete required training
Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Required Qualifications:
HS Diploma/GED
1+ years of scrap recycling equipment experience is required; 3+ years is strongly preferred
1+ years of prior ferrous material experience; 3+ years is strongly preferred
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to climb a flight of stairs multiple times per day in outdoor conditions
Good eyesight, good hearing and dexterity
Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather
