Primary Responsibilities:
As a key member of Cost Performance Engineering group, you will be responsible for developing accurate and consistent should-cost models for metal machining commodity. These cost models will be used to identify cost improvement opportunities, determine product feasibility, and potential cost avoidance. You will be a partner with Engineering, Product Management and sourcing teams. The objective is to enable cost leadership and sustain competitive advantage, maximizing the value of new products, starting with the commodities of metal machined parts components.
Position will focus on realizing results through the following:
Executes should costing for large and complex metal machine components & assemblies.Acts as an enabler to drive down Cost of components/assemblies by influencing Design on Manufacturability, Costs and Technical Cost validations. Serve as a technical process expert for complex problems across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, product management, and suppliers to solve business critical issues.Develop and execute plans for qualified suppliers to meet new product introduction, supplier transition in a timely and cost-effective manner, with focus on machining & different products.Should be provide suggestions for value addition and engage in various activities with cross functional teams utilizing material cost/design knowledge to drive cost/quality improvement.Plan and execute vendor visits in conjunction with our sourcing groups to conduct research for development/validation of cost models.Evaluate new product needs and assist in developing advanced roadmaps including technology solutions, investment, and overall technology strategy.Deliver the results for Cost avoidance and Cost reduction projects
Work Experience
Mandatory Skills required to perform the job:
Minimum of six years of experience in should costing, cost estimation, or cost engineering roles within the manufacturing industry. We value direct shop floor experience.Ability to perform should costing for metal machined components and assemblies based on manufacturing methods, cycle time, materials, labor, overhead, and other costs. In-depth shop floor knowledge of metal machining manufacturing process and alternate manufacturing methods for high-end precision manufacturing of large, high-complex metal machine components.Hands-on experience in other manufacturing methods like casting, forging, extrusion, machining, EDM, bonding and joining, advanced materials and coatings, additive manufacturing. Proficient in pre and post treatment / secondary operation (Heat treatment, Surface treatment/Coating etc.)Thorough knowledge of materials such as aluminum alloys, steel grades, nickel and proficient in dealing with Limit, Fit and Tolerances, GD&T, Metrology.Proficient in using should costing methodologies, tools, and software applications for accurate cost estimation.Demonstrated Problem Solving skill.Proven ability to lead and drive cost optimization projects, delivering measurable results.Experience in Design-to-Cost (DTC) methodologies to optimize product designs for cost efficiency without compromising quality or performance.
Desirable Skill:
Exposure to different Costing techniques & Software, and exposure to CAD applications NX.Exposure to supplier management and negotiationKnowledge in Project Management tools (MS Project), exposure to Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) concepts and Cost Reduction ideasShopfloor experience in machining, fabrication environmentWorking level knowledge on different machines, their processes and properties in industrial scale
