Summary You will serve as a SHIPWRIGHT LEADER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, COATING AND SERVICES SHOP (970) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the hiring freeze. Although we are moving forward with the consideration of candidates, we will not make a selection for this vacancy announcement unless and until the position is no longer subject to the hiring freeze. Responsibilities You will plan and layout work using blueprints, sketches, work orders and other specifications. You will work safely in all areas and understand and adhere to safety procedures and requirements. You will ensure that tools used are in good, safe operating condition to accomplish work. You will ensure that tools, materials, and equipment are properly used, stored and maintained. You will lay out work for the group, taking the lead in setting the pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind as done by the group led. You will estimate materials, plan work and assume lead in erecting various types of staging (mast, hanging, etc.) in a safe and economical manner. You will check work in progress and when completed to assure proper quantity and quality of output from each worker. You will resolve any problems that may arise, such as ambiguous aspects of job specifications, unattainable completion dates, substitution of materials, additional manpower, surplus manpower, etc. You will lead the work of others to include ensuring that the work production of those led is in keeping with standards, deadlines, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Education Additional Information This is an obligated position. The former incumbent has return rights to this position under PL 86-585. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Temporary promotions may be extended up to 5 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations. Temporary actions taken under this announcement may be made permanent without further competition. Temporary actions taken under this announcement may be terminated at any time before the established not-to-exceed date. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
