The Shipping Clerk plays a vital role in the safe, accurate, and timely handling of shipments and receipts—especially when managing hazardous materials. This position requires thorough knowledge of logistics, warehousing, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols, with specific training in hazardous materials handling. The role involves coordinating day-to-day shipping operations, collaborating with internal departments, and ensuring adherence to domestic and international shipping regulations.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
+ Accurately prepare and package orders per specifications.
+ Complete, scan, and organize shipping documents (packing lists, BOLs, invoices).
+ Schedule and coordinate carrier pickups; load/unload trucks while ensuring safe handling of goods.
+ Support on-time, in-full (OTIF) shipping and daily sales goals.
+ Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely.
+ Collaborate with Quality to obtain export and compliance documentation.
+ Request freight quotes, schedule pickups, and track shipments.
+ Ensure all shipments meet DOT, EPA, and other regulatory compliance requirements.
+ Maintain Hazmat certification and safety training; label, document, package, and inspect hazardous shipments per DOT, IATA/ICAO, and IMDG standards.
+ Resolve shipping issues: track lost shipments, file damage claims, and provide necessary documentation.
+ Coordinate with customer service to expedite delayed or problematic orders.
+ Generate invoices and provide proof of delivery (POD) upon request.
+ Use internal reports (e.g., Down in Shipping, Order Overdue) to monitor and expedite orders.
+ Assist with inventory and cycle counts.
+ Participate in safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Maintain clean, safe, and organized work/storage areas.
+ Support general warehouse operations and perform other tasks as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Hazmat Certification (Preferred) and knowledge of DOT/IATA/IMDG regulations.
+ Forklift Certification.
+ Experience in logistics, shipping, and warehousing.
+ Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
+ Proficiency with shipping software and basic Microsoft Office tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment. When in the shop environment, conditions vary based on the area.

+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
