Job Description

The Shipping Associate plays a crucial role in our production process by ensuring accurate and efficient rolls, packaging, and labeling of the finished product according to customer specifications and Avery Dennison standards. This role will be 3rd Shift, 9:50pm - 6:00am.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

Move material to/from raw, WIP, Finishing, Receiving, and Manufacturing areas and accurately record production data and movement of materials in the Inventory Management System. 

Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required.

Unload/load trucks/tankers with incoming/outgoing materials. - Verify materials against receiving/shipping documents.

Complete warehouse and departmental cycles counts and correct discrepancies.

Maintain accurate inventory of packaging materials and finished goods.

Maintain proper documentation for quality control and traceability.

Request packaging materials to ensure adequate supplies.

Efficiently utilize materials to minimize waste.

Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.

Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area and condense warehouse using 5S principles.

Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed.

Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste materials under Environmental Control Instructions.

Interpret and follow product specifications and work orders.

Monitor and report on key performance issues.

Inspect finished products for quality defects and ensure proper labeling.

Package finished goods according to customer requirements and Avery Dennison procedures, including the use of the Exact program.

Communicate and coordinate necessary information to appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations.

Lead in the recycling of pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials.

Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience. 

Must be able to follow written and oral instruction.

Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures.

Must have strong service and quality focus with strong attention to detail; address issues effectively when problems arise and take initiative to understand root cause, then communicate/educate the team in a timely manner.

Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment; encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.

Must demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks of the job and a willingness to learn and share knowledge; must take initiative to cross-train and sustain acquired skills.

Must have a demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus.

Must be able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests.

Must demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, especially strong Oracle transactional skills and learn new software.

Physical ability to lift, stand, and move around for extended periods.

Ability to operate machinery and use hand tools.

Preferred Requirements:

Solid interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical aptitude and logical problem solving skills.

Skilled in working independently and as part of a team 

Be motivated towards productivity, safety and quality improvements

Experience leading continuous improvement efforts and knowledgeable about ELS Operating Principles.
