Purpose of the role
The Shift Operator position provides assistance to the Shift Supervisors in managing and controlling the safe and efficient operations to the Terminal. Shift Operator’s will take direction from the Shift Supervisor to coordinate the daily terminal operations to ensure that safe and reliable operations are maintained, and that the needs of customers are met in a timely manner with due regard to HSSE, reliability, efficiency, cost, stakeholder relationships, product stewardship & customer service.
Key Accountabilities
Assist Terminal Management in pursuit of bp's safety objectives by maintaining a strong HSSE culture and developing HSSE awareness of all users of the terminal
Maintain the terminal in a safe & reliable operational state when carrying out Terminal/Shift Operator duties in accordance with internal procedures and national and local statutory requirements.
Working with Contractors to ensure their adherence to terminal operating rules and regulations.
Monitor and maintain site integrity to ensure site is operating and maintained in a safe and reliable manner through the identification of hazards / risks and implement controls via implementation of group standards.
Complete administration as required to assist in maintaining the company standards, policies and procedures i.e. Update Work Instructions, review HSSEQ systems, conduct Site Inductions and manage the Terminal Access Registers
Work within and help maintain a strong team environment to achieve the safe and efficient daily operations of the terminal
Complete all daily, weekly & monthly administration and system functions required for the accurate control and measurement of all product movements within the terminal. ie. bulk products and additives. Diligence in monitoring loss/gain performance and ensuring that abnormal results are reported promptly is essential
Assist to ensure all non-routine work is completed safely and that operational impacts are managed.
Pipeline or Tankship Product Movement Accountabilities: where the role is directly engaged in controlling product movement by pipeline or tankships, ensure that the relevant procedures and competency requirements are followed and adhered to.
Be self-motivated to work flexibly to assist where needed to deliver efficient and cost-effective terminal operations.
Be able to cover a variety of operational roles as required within the terminal structure. The role requires someone who can perform across operational positions and be hands on when required.
Permanent sportsman roster - mix of 12hour day night shifts, plus handover
Essential Skills and Experience
Experience in fixed plant processing/oil movements (oil and gas preferable).
Experience in risk management and operating in a high-risk environment, demonstrating troubleshooting capability.
Evidence of valuing and role modelling a speak up, safety culture and caring for others.
Advocate for personnel and process safety leadership and execution, setting clear safety expectations for both bp & contractor teams.
An experienced communicator - able to communicate with positive personal impact and influence
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply operational and HSSEQ policies & procedures and Engineering drawings
IT Skills – ability to use Email, MS Word & Excel.
Flexible enough to adapt to various job roles
Strong team working skills and performance orientation
Must be able to successfully complete the mandatory annual firefighting skills training and medical assessment.
Capability to be self-directed and self-organised.
Experience in the development or peer checking of operating procedures and documents.
Aptitude for learning and a growth mindset.
Operations knowledge across shipping, pipeline transfers, marine bunkering, tank farm operations and gantry facilities with a practical hands-on approach and management of associated hazards.
