Shift Operations Manager
Location: Birstall
Contract Type: Permanent & full time
Shift Pattern: 24/7 - 12-hour shifts | 4 week rotating days and nights

At Mars, we’re looking for a dedicated Shift Operations Manager to lead and develop a high-performing production team—including Operators, Area Leaders, and Shift Engineers—while delivering against safety, quality, and efficiency targets.

In this hands-on role, you’ll spend 50% of your time in your operational area and 50% focused on coaching, development, and continuous improvement activities. You'll be accountable for the smooth running of your lines, ensuring compliance with all safety and food quality standards, and driving a culture of ownership, problem-solving, and collaboration.

What you’ll do:

Lead and coach your team to safely meet daily production plans

Ensure consistent delivery of quality standards through routine checks and escalation of issues

Develop and maintain a trained, competent, and engaged team

Own and optimise labour planning and resource alignment with key stakeholders

Coordinate maintenance activities and ensure effective handovers

Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring losses

Monitor key performance indicators and champion continuous improvement

What we’re looking for:

Proven experience in shift or operational leadership, ideally in manufacturing or engineering

Strong data-driven decision making and problem-solving skills

Effective communicator with the ability to coach and influence across levels

Working knowledge of safety and food quality standards (IOSH, HACCP, Food Hygiene Level 3)

Computer literacy and confidence using operational systems

Relevant qualifications (Level 4–5 or equivalent experience)
