Position Overview:
System One is seeking a capable and motivated Shift Field Operator to support our client onsite in Everette, WA on their Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) Integrated Effects Test (IET) Experiment. This non-critical, non-nuclear pilot unit will play a pivotal role in the future of energy innovation.
As a Shift Field Operator, you will be an integral part of the IET crew, working alongside the Shift Operations Supervisor and Control Room Operator to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the IET system. This role involves operating high-temperature pilot systems and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on various equipment, including heater control systems, pumps, and electrical heaters. You will collaborate with a diverse team of over 20 scientists and engineers, gaining invaluable experience in molten chloride salt handling for next-generation advanced reactors.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate high-temperature pilot systems, including pumps, valves, heaters, blowers, and compressors. Monitor and control pressures, temperatures, flow rates, and levels to achieve desired operating results. Respond to alarms and troubleshoot equipment, electrical, and instrumentation issues. Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO) and complete system pressure and leak checks. Maintain accurate shift logs of operations and report on-shift events and abnormalities during shift turnover. Independently plan and execute maintenance and operations in accordance with established procedures. Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives, supporting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.Shift Schedule:
This position supports a 24/7 operation with four crews working 12-hour shifts. The schedule does not rotate, with two crews dedicated to day shifts and two to night shifts. Candidates can expect to work seven 12-hour shifts every two weeks, with 3 to 4 consecutive days off. Weekend work will be required, averaging half of the weekends in a year.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or GED is required. Minimum of two years of experience in industrial plant operations (chemical, boiler, refinery, etc.); four years preferred. School or military service may substitute for industrial plant experience. Proficiency in basic math, including algebra, fractions/percentages, and unit conversion. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumps, electric motors, hydraulic control systems, and other mechanical equipment. Personal computer proficiency, including word processing and spreadsheets, as well as familiarity with control system interfaces. Strong interpersonal skills to support team collaboration and strategy. Understanding of electrical, radiological, and chemical hazards and safety protocols.
