Sheetmetal (Repair) - Shipyard - 1st & 2nd Shift - $25/hr-$33/hr

Job Description

This position involves fabricating, assembling, removing, installing, and repairing sheet metal products and equipment such as air conditioning and heating systems, ventilation ducting, cabinets, shelves, and other related equipment. The role requires the operation of hand and power tools, setting up tools, accessories, and supplies at job sites, and reviewing blueprints and sketches to lay out material according to specifications.

ResponsibilitiesRemove, modify, fabricate, and install ventilation ducts, cabinets, shelves, and other equipment.Cut, drill, rivet, and weld sheet metal.Operate a variety of power tools.Perform other related tasks as assigned, which may become essential to the position.Essential SkillsMinimum 3 years of experience in sheet metal repair and installation.Ability to read blueprints and understand the layout of a ship with compartment identification.Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely and efficiently.Basic reading, writing (in English), and math skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious experience in metal works is an asset.Layout and drafting courses are helpful.Welding certification is desired, but not required.Ability to identify nuts and bolts according to size.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The role is based at the NASSCO yard, Naval Base, and other shipyard facilities in the Repair department. You must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift. The ability to hear warning signals and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings is necessary.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
