Summary You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Training Leader in the in the MRO Production Department, Production Lines Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. The duty locations of the 2 vacancies are: Camp Pendleton, California and Naval Air Station San Diego, California Responsibilities You will conduct formal training and on the job training for the full range of Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanics duties on fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components. You will assign tasks to immediate workers, relay supervisor's instructions and provide guidance to workers on methods and procedures. You will perform journeyman level tasks in areas such as aircraft lines, ground check, flight test and various component overhaul and repair shops. You will dissemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural and aerodynamic parts on aircrafts and aircraft components. You will provide leadership to assigned personnel and assist in the training of personnel in the tasks associated with the sheet metal trade. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Duties include: A. I have the ability to independently perform the most difficult and complex tasks as an expert or have been consulted by other employees in difficult situations performing duties including: 1) Performing productive tasks of a journey level Sheet Metal Mechanic, including repairing various types of fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Developing training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrating proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the use of power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) Troubleshooting systems, disassembling components/systems, and determining required repairs; 6) Performing complete structural check of aircraft; 7) Maintaining training records and making recommendations for employee's training plan progress or additional training as appropriate; 8) Developing and revising lesson plans, developing and administering tests and maintaining progress charts; and 9) Conducting formal/informal or on-the-job training instructing others in the use of tools, nomenclature, theory of operations, repair procedures and test procedures of components, assemblies and air-frames associated with the Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic trade. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. OR B. I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks on my own initiative including: 1) Performing productive tasks of a Sheet Metal Mechanic, including repairing various types of fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Developing training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrating proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the use of power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; 4) reading and interpreting blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) troubleshooting systems, disassembling components/systems, and determining required repairs; 6) Performing complete structural check of aircraft.; and 7) Conducting formal/informal or on-the-job training instructing others in the use of tools, nomenclature, theory of operations, repair procedures and test procedures of components, assemblies and air-frames associated with the Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic trade. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. OR C. I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Performing tasks of a Sheet Metal Mechanic, including repairing various types of fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Developing training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrating proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the use of power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; and 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) Performing structural check of aircraft. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
