Description – The Meter Servicer is a field employee who travels to customer location to perform services involving the customer’s use of natural gas. The employee works alone the vast majority of the time.
The Meter Servicer deals with operation of an appliance burning natural gas and the improper operation of an appliance that may result in the release of carbon monoxide into a living space. The Meter Servicer will turn gas meters on and off at the customers request and relight and check the operation of appliances that have been turned off for any reason. The Meter Servicer will exchange gas meters that aren’t operating properly or require replacement due to age or any other reason. The Meter Servicer interacts with residential, commercial and industrial customers, animals, weather conditions and the general public on the roadways of the territory. This position is a union position under IBEW Local 50. It is part of a promotional series that progresses to an Operations Mechanic job classification. In addition to the above duties, the Operations Mechanic job classification is required to perform first responder responsibilities as it relates to the escape of natural gas. The Operations Mechanic job classification has varied work shifts and requires employee to be “on-call” in support of emergencies.*This position will be promoted to Operations Mechanic once an opening is available.
