Position Summary:
This position offers flexibility in meeting customer demand in both our Service and Delivery Departments. Due to the seasonal nature of the energy business, customer demand fluctuates throughout the year. Employees who possess the skills, training, and certification necessary to work in either a service technician role or in delivering liquid petroleum products, help us effectively serve our customer’s needs in all seasons. In most cases, candidates selected for this position will receive additional training and/or cross-training to be effective in this role. As a Service Technician, this position provides service, installation or repair to customer heating equipment and appliances. As a Delivery Driver, this position safely and efficiently delivers petroleum products to residential and commercial customers. Employees can expect to spend several months each year in both positions. The responsibilities of this position are carried out with particular attention to caring for customer property and working as a trusted advisor. The Technician/Driver serves as a Dead River Company ambassador by adhering to our Brand Promise, Guarantees and Pledges and our Co-Worker Guarantees and Pledges.
Essential Functions:
As an Experienced Journeyman Technician this position performs installations, troubleshooting, efficiency tests, tune-ups, propane tank sets and hook-ups in accordance with applicable codes, safety regulations and Dead River Company policies. Eliminates call-backs and reduces liability by ensuring that all work is performed safely and accurately. As a Delivery Driver this position safely and productively makes deliveries of both heating oil and propane according federal and state regulations and company policy. Participates in training programs to gain new skills in order to be most effective in role. Promotes image as a trusted advisor through a neat appearance, clean uniform, and timely, safe and courteous service. Promotes Dead River company products and services. Advises customers on best options for specific needs. Maintains a clean and well-organized vehicle. Ensures that all tools and equipment are in safe operating condition. Participates in night and weekend on-call schedule as necessary. Performs all job functions according to state and federal regulations and company policy. Reports all accidents, spills, and liability claims.Other Tasks:
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience: A minimum of two years of experience is required as a service technician. A minimum of one year of experience is required as a delivery driver.
Certification, Licensing, and Testing:
For Service - Appropriate CETP certification and/or state specific Journeyman level oil and/or LP service technician licensing is required, or the ability to obtain this certification and licensing. For Delivery - Class B commercial drivers’ license, with Hazmat Endorsement, is required or the ability to obtain this license with endorsement.Other Attributes and Requirements:

Industry related equipment including all types of hand tools, testing equipment, soldering torch, power tools, along with appropriate gauges and meters.
Decisions Made:
Technicians make decisions regarding the appropriate steps to take in servicing or installing equipment and heating devices and decisions relating to the safe delivery of petroleum delivery. Complex problems or unusual customer related issues are referred to the Service Manager or other appropriate party.
Contacts:
This position regularly interact with customers, other employees (dispatchers, other technicians, drivers, and office personnel) and equipment and parts supply vendors.
Safety Considerations:
Safety considerations relate to safe operation of the service vehicle or delivery truck, wearing appropriate personal protective safety equipment, proper lifting of heavy parts or equipment, and general observation of the surroundings where work is being done. Icy, slippery conditions are a primary concern during winter.
Work Environment:
Temperatures may vary from below zero to above 90 degrees, depending on the time of year. Since the job involves working with devices that burn petroleum products, there is some exposure to the product and fumes. The work area ranges from the technician van to commercial and consumer sites that are occasionally cramped with little headroom. Delivery drivers encounter all kinds of weather conditions along with snow and ice.

Technicians move various sized objects weighing from a few ounces to over 100 pounds. When very heavy objects are moved technicians are expected to seek assistance from other employees.
