Don't miss out on the opportunity to work alongside the world's best in paediatric healthcare. **Position Description** We have an opportunity for a Service Manager, Research Core Facility in the High-resolution, High-throughput electron cryomicroscopy (cryo-EM) sub-core of the Nanoscale Biomedical Imaging Core Facility. The successful candidate will have experience with use of cryo-EM for high-resolution protein structure determination, will participate in establishing systems for protein structure determination, and facilitate use of the sub-core. **Here's What You'll Get To Do:** + Develop, maintain, and continuously update a cryo-EM high-resolution, high-throughput structure determination pipeline + Train users to operate state-of-the-art cryo-EM microscopes and specimen preparation equipment, including room temperature transmission electron microscopes, a 200 kV transmission electron microscope, an automated 200 kV cryo-EM specimen screening microscope, and a 300 kV automated cryo-EM data collection microscope + Facilitate high-throughput data collection for cryo-EM research studies + Participate in collaborative projects to develop new cryo-EM approaches, working with research groups and instrument manufacturers + Work with research groups to determine high-resolution molecular structures for biomedically important targets + Work with service engineers to ensure smooth operation of state-of-the-art cryo-EM infrastructure + Build and maintain computational image analysis infrastructure + Be part of a team of facility staff, with opportunities to cross train on numerous instrument platforms including 3D scanning electron microscopes + Implement and test new computational approaches for image analysis + Participate in the smooth administration of a core facility, maintaining financial records and billing users + Perform image analysis for challenging structure determination problems and teach trainees how to perform this analysis + Provide troubleshooting expertise as required to ensure integrity of imaging and image analysis systems + Maintain effective communication with students, postdoctoral fellows, scientific staff, principal investigators, and service engineers **Here's What You'll Need:** + An MSc or PhD with significant experience with cryo-EM for protein structure determination + Minimum of 3 years of experience with cryo-EM preferred, including hands-on data collection + Good technical skills in freezing specimens, operating an electron microscope, and computational image analysis + Experience with software packages such as cryoSPARC and/or Relion + Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment + Attention to detail + Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills + Proficiency with computers + Demonstrated commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives **Employment Type:** Full time permanent 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE **Our Commitment to Diversity** SickKids is committed to championing equity, diversity and inclusion in all that we do, fostering an intentionally inclusive and culturally safe environment that reflects the diversity of the patients, families and communities we serve.
