Finance Systems & Process Improvement Analyst- Position Summary

The Retail Development Program – Finance Systems & Process Improvement prepares you for a career in Financial Systems at Belk by providing structured training in multiple functional areas including Systems Administration, Financial Reporting, General Accounting, Internal Audit, Financial Operations, Accounts Payable, Tax, and Financial Planning & Analysis while interacting with leaders and other business areas across the company.  Participants will support Finance systems and process improvement projects aligned to the overall Finance strategy. This position will work closely with various IT teams and other systems administrators across the company that provide data inputs into the Finance systems.

Participants will analyze and measure the effectiveness of existing business processes and develop sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable business process improvements. Participants work on problems of diverse scopes and complexity levels. Participants will assist in researching how new information technologies can support re-engineering business processes.

Associates will participate in professional development classes with the broader Retail Development Program cohort, complete on-the-job projects, and program projects. Participants are also matched with mentors to help acclimate to Belk, develop on the job, and identify future career possibilities. The Retail Development Program – Finance Systems & Process Improvement will hire candidates in our Charlotte, NC headquarters. Participants benefit an engaged leadership team and a large network of peers across Belk in the Retail Development Program.

On the Job Experiences Include:

Support on-going Finance systems including Workday Financials, Workday Adaptive Planning, ReconNet, BMS, and support the decommission of Oracle EPM Planning/Essbase as administrator and/or backup of these systemsInteract with all levels of management to communicate or present topics vital to the business.

Assist in updating Workday Financials configuration and reporting to support the need of end users. 

Collaborate with Finance leaders to proactively establish and recommend efficiency improvements to Finance processes and  the operation and development of appropriate Finance systems to support these processes. 

Assist with the development of Finance reports & distribution of key variance review/reports. 

Document standard processes and job aids to assist the Finance team. 

Continually assesses the appropriateness of the control environment involving user access to and use of Finance systems, review, approve and coordinate implementation of all user enhancement requests to Finance systems. 

Act as a key bridge between the Finance team and the IT team, ensuring that appropriate technology solutions are in place to meet Finance strategic objectives, and act as primary Finance liaison with other functional interfaces (e.g. HRIS). 

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required, strong academic performance in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.

Must have completed degree between December 2024 – June 2025 and able to start full time September 2025.

Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future.

GPA minimum 3.2

Prior internship in software applications related field, accounting, or finance (preferred).

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word.

Working knowledge of Workday Financial System (preferred). 

Working knowledge of Workday Adaptive Planning System (preferred).

Demonstrated problem solving skills and strong customer service orientation.

Understanding of GAAP accounting and its application to business activities.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills: positive, persuasive, motivating.

Ability to think critically and make recommendations.

Continually strives to build knowledge and skills specific to the products and processes.

Self-motivation, drive, energy, and resilience.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and to handle new tasks without the benefit of written procedures.
