Senior Underwriter, Casualty

Westchester, a Chubb company is looking to expand the Middle Market Casualty team.  We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Jersey City, NJ. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in primary casualty insurance, with a focus on E&S underwriting. This role requires a deep understanding of the insurance market, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with wholesale brokers.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate and underwrite primary casualty insurance submissions in the E&S space, focusing on Real Estate, Products, and Construction sectors. Help develop underwriting guidelines and appetite  Collaborate with wholesale brokers to assess risks, determine coverage options, and negotiate terms and pricing. Analyze loss history, financial statements, and other relevant data to make informed underwriting decisions. Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate business growth and retention. Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions to inform underwriting strategies. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters and support team development. Prepare and present underwriting recommendations to management and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field.Minimum of 4 years of experience in underwriting primary casualty insurance, preferably in the E&S market.Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and guidelines.Experience in Real Estate, Products, and Construction insurance is highly preferred.Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with brokers and clients.Proficient in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AU) are a plus.The pay range for the role is $78,900 to $134,100. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
