Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Transportation Modeler  – Travel Demand to join our dynamic team supporting Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise in Ocoee, Florida. This is an exciting opportunity for a transportation planning professional with a strong background in travel demand modeling to contribute to high-impact infrastructure projects that shape the future of mobility across the state.

This Senior Transportation Modeler will be responsible for the application of the recently developed statewide tour-based model along with the application of regional travel demand models. The job duties include fulfillment of scripting requests for innovative toll project evaluations while contributing to a multidisciplinary team specializing in planning, economic feasibility analysis and design of toll roads. 

Additionally, this role will utilize skills and experience to create and update model code for travel demand model development including, but not limited to, the following: Visum, TransCAD, QGIS, R, and Python software, as well as large language models (LLMs).

As the Senior Transportation Modeler you will have the opportunity to assemble and prepare data for model validation and long-range future year travel forecasts; model validation to required accuracy standards; development of forecasts for toll road projects; and documentation of results. As part of the model design will use QGIS/ArcGIS with related database development and application knowledge, along with SQL/Python/R or other programming languages. This role will also utilize analytical skills for research on design, data development, and statistical analyses to address perceived model shortcomings and recommend an improved modeling approach.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning or related field8 plus years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationKnowledge and experience with the principles, practices, and objectives of transportation planning applications, specifically the 4-Step process of travel demand modeling, Activity-Based Models, micro-simulation, and dynamic traffic assignment;Programming experience with at least two of the following: Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL, C++ (preferred), Python (preferred), Rscript (preferred), JAVA, including the ,use of AI to assist in code development and debugging;Knowledge and experience with travel demand modeling software, such as Cube, TransCAD, TRANSIMS, and Visum (preferred);Knowledge and experience with choice models, development, and application to travel demand, use of econometrics in estimating demand models from survey data;Knowledge and experience with GIS and database analysis including developing scripts to process data in and out of GIS files or automated routines in QGIS / ArcGIS.Utilization and experience with advanced techniques with modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of planning sciences, data sciences (preferred) and related disciplines;

Preferred Requirements:

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning or related fieldExperience in technical writing skills and verbal communication abilities to present modeling results for various stakeholders (clients, TRB or IBTTA conferences, model user groups).
