The PositionAt Roche, we are working to make next-generation sequencing simple and accessible enough for routine use. By accelerating clinical research, streamlining workflows, and expanding assay menus, we are broadening access to genomic data and lowering barriers to adoption. From robust sample isolation and preparation tools to novel sequencing technology and advanced bioinformatics, we are developing differentiated, highly integrated end-to-end solutions for next-generation sequencing, resulting in a sample in, result out workflow.
Our Systems Technology Group, a part of Roche Sequencing Solutions, is focused on creating and advancing technologies to significantly enhance DNA sequencing workflows. We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to drive the prototyping activities for our advanced hardware concepts and platforms in the Research and Early Development stages. This is a critical, hands-on leadership role for an engineer who is passionate about pioneering new technologies and can bridge the gaps between ambitious design concepts and cutting-edge, functional instrumentation. We are seeking an accomplished technical leader and multi-disciplinary expert to partner closely with our lead design engineers, chemists and integration team to translate their designs, chemistry and workflows into robust, fully integrated prototype solutions.

You will serve as a hands-on contributor, leading by example to solve tough technical challenges, especially during the crucial initial team building phases.
You will lead or perform proof-of-concept testing and technology down-selection activities. This may include evaluating, testing, and iterating on novel features and modules, bringing them from early concepts and design to functional components and sub-systems.
You will own and advance our tools and code base for hardware simulation, control, verification and characterization efforts
You will be responsible for procurement of parts and all necessary equipment and tools for in-house fabrication and testing. This may also include identifying, evaluating and onboarding new vendors and suppliers.
You will own key documentation for our hardware platforms, such as BOMs, assembly instructions, test plans/reports, troubleshooting guides, and configuration management records
