Senior Tax Manager
Microsoft Japan supports a diverse portfolio including Sales & Marketing (MCAPS), R&D, and Data Center operations. To enable business growth and ensure tax compliance, we are seeking a seasoned Senior Tax Manager to lead our Japan tax function. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. **Responsibilities** + Lead and manage Japan’s direct and indirect tax (including GST and JCT) inquiries, audits, and compliance matters. + Collaborate with the Corporate Transfer Pricing team on documentation, Advance Pricing Agreements (APA), and transfer pricing audits. + Advise local controllers on corporate income tax and JCT compliance and reporting requirements. + Support the expansion of data center operations in Japan from a tax and customs perspective. + Manage customs reporting, audits, and related projects. + Partner with local business stakeholders on strategic initiatives and operational planning. + Monitor changes in Japanese tax legislation, assess business impact, and lead process/system updates to ensure compliance. + Contribute to global tax policy initiatives and support cross-border tax projects as needed. **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications (RQs)** + Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 8+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience + OR Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field; J.D.; LL.M. in Taxation) AND 7+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience + OR equivalent experience + Deep expertise in Japanese tax laws (direct and indirect) and transfer pricing regulations. **Preferred Qualifications (PQs)** + Minimum 10 years of experience in direct tax, indirect tax, and transfer pricing, including time at a Big 4 firm, law firm, and in-house tax function of a large U.S. multinational. + Strong understanding of U.S. international tax principles. + Demonstrated business judgment, effective communication skills, and a growth mindset. + Chartered Accountant or licensed tax attorney credentials preferred.
