Senior System Support Specialist: Oracle DBA

DHL is looking to add a Senior Oracle DBA to its Infrastructure team in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.    You will administrator our enterprise database solutions and will routinely work with vendors, project managers, system administrators, application developers and end users in order to maintain and improve the performance of our servers, databases and applications.

We are looking for a flexible, self-starter with a positive attitude that enjoys supporting and helping others in a fast paced and team oriented environment.  You must be able to work in the United States to be considered for this position. Additional responsibilities and requirements include:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and ASM support – RAC is a High Availability software that permits an Oracle database to run on two or more different servers.  ASM is Oracle’s file system that performs more efficiently than traditional file systems.  RAC and ASM are specialized skills and are core to DHL’s Oracle database environment.

·       Database patching and upgrade support.

·       Follows, defines and manages enterprise level policies and procedures that ensure the security, optimization and integrity of Oracle database environments.

·       Designs, implements and maintains physical and logical database solutions.

·       Anticipates and resolves database performance, capacity and replication issues.

·       Diagnose and address database performance issues.

·       Understands standard concepts, practices and procedures relating to database and associated technologies

·       Manages database backup & recovery procedures, disaster recovery preparation and the associated exercises

·       Produces reports on database systems related to availability, performance, capacity management and SLAs (Service Level Agreement)

·       Collaborates with SAN (Storage Area Network – the disk behind servers), server, applications and operational staff in support of database objectives

·       Assist development staff with application design and efficient use of database technology

·       Supports project plans and schedules relative to database requirements

·       Supports 8x7 (10:00 AM until 6:00 PM US Daylight Savings time and 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM US Eastern Standard Time) on-call rotation and issue triaging with the extended teams

·       Global Service Now utilization to manage change tasks, emergency incidents, emergency service calls and change approvals

REQUIREMENTS:

·       Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

·       Certifications/Key Experience:  Oracle DBA Knowledge(Required)/Certification (Desired)

·       Five years of Oracle database administration experience

·       Solid written and verbal communication skills in English

·       Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team

·       Remain professional, positive and patient at all times

·       Detail oriented and committed to meeting deadlines

·       Solve problems quickly and effectively

·       Maintain shift/schedule flexibility

·       Stay abreast of current technological developments/trends

·       5% travel in support of site, regional and managerial priorities

·       Strong scripting skills (SQL, Shell scripting, etc.)

·       Strong database experience – Oracle 12c and later versions.

·       Strong understanding of server, SAN and networking technologies

·       Ability to effectively multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

·       Strong general knowledge of operating systems (Linux experience mandatory), storage and overall system design and management

·       Deep understanding of HA (High Availability) and DR (Disaster Recovery) including RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard

·       Experience around Oracle upgrades and migrations are a must
