About position:

We are seeking a seasoned Senior System Engineer who brings a wealth of virtualization expertise, strong foundational networking and SAN knowledge, and a forward-thinking DevOps mindset.
 

The Senior System Engineer will be responsible for the architecture, deployment, management, and support of our server and virtualization infrastructure. This role requires in-depth experience with VMware, Hyper-V, and KVM virtualization platforms, and a solid understanding of enterprise-level networking and storage systems. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience with backup solutions like Veeam, and will contribute to infrastructure automation and DevOps initiatives through scripting and basic software development.

Key Responsibilities:    

Design, implement, and maintain virtualization environments using VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, and KVM (KVM optional)    

Manage and support physical and virtual server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability    

Understanding of networking components and protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing    

Provide basic administration and support for SAN and storage environments, including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and storage provisioning   

Design and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies using Veeam Backup & Replication or equivalent enterprise tools    

Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to automate infrastructure provisioning and deployments using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)    

Develop custom scripts and lightweight tools to automate system tasks and improve operational efficiency    

Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware/software issues, ensuring security best practices are upheld    

Participate in on-call rotation and provide escalation support for critical infrastructure issues    

Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, procedures, and change management processes

Required Skills & Experience:    

5+ years in systems engineering, infrastructure, or a related IT role   

Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V   

Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, firewalls, load balancing    

Working knowledge of SAN technologies (iSCSI/Fibre Channel), RAID, and storage provisioning concepts    

Experience with Veeam or similar enterprise-grade backup solutions   

Proficiency in scripting with PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and system management    

Understanding of DevOps principles, including CI/CD basics, infrastructure as code, and configuration management    

Experience with version control tools like Git    

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Nice-to-Have Skills:    

Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or other automation tools    

Exposure to containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)   

Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus   

Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana)

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience and certifications

Certifications (preferred but not required):   

VMware Certified Professional (VCP)    

MCITP, MCSE or Microsoft similar    

Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
