As a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring supplier deliveries consistently meet all customer quality and regulatory requirements. Your responsibilities will include leading preventive enhancement initiatives to improve supplier manufacturing processes and actively contributing to sourcing and industrialization efforts to achieve the target of zero customer defects. The role also involves collaborating with sourcing and product engineering teams to conduct preventive assessments of design-to-manufacturing processes, ensuring that quality systems are adaptable and responsive to evolving demands.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Lead the organization in resolving complex customer quality concerns related to supplier performance, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives

Monitor and analyze customer scorecards, driving preventive actions to mitigate disruptions triggered by suppliers

Establish strategic partnerships with suppliers to anticipate volume evolution, adapt to changing quality requirements, and implement long-term improvement plans

Provide advanced engineering support to supplier manufacturing processes, ensuring consistent application of quality techniques to resolve high-impact issues related to capability, tolerancing, and materials

Lead supplier eligibility assessments, readiness reviews, and surveillance audits, ensuring robust early containment actions are applied

Drive APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) initiatives, including customer requirements flow-down, FMEA, and leveraging lessons learned, ensuring PPAP approvals are conducted on-site when required

Champion the use of Flight Deck tools across multidisciplinary teams, driving cultural and operational transformation

Develop and implement breakthrough process improvement strategies in collaboration with stakeholders, leveraging Flight Deck principles such as Hoshin Kanri to achieve significant productivity gains in product cost and service business

Act as a senior advisor and active leader in Hoshin Kanri initiatives and lean development with strategic/critical suppliers

Oversee resolution of complex shop issues related to supplied parts, ensuring rapid identification and containment of non-compliances

Lead strategic management of Supplier Quality KPIs through advanced standard work practices

Represent supplier quality in high-level production planning meetings, providing actionable insights on constraints preventing product/process release

Lead cross-functional problem-solving events to address internal scraps and supplier escapes, ensuring root cause analysis, corrective actions, risk assessments, and standardization through lessons learned/FMEA

Make critical decisions to stop production in the event of uncontained supplied off-spec parts, ensuring minimal disruption to operations

Act as the gatekeeper for scrap assets, inventory control, and supplier-related parts management

Lead advanced risk assessments (e.g., PFMEA, PQA) to ensure compliance with product, process, and system quality requirements

Identify and implement improvement parameters using advanced statistical methods to sustain manufacturing processes and prevent non-conformities

Drive deployment of lessons learned through Yokoten, ensuring successful preventive actions are shared across the organization

Qualifications/Requirements

Master of Science in Engineering degree

Extensive experience in driving quality assurance and control within complex manufacturing environments, with a proven track record of leadership in supplier quality management

Advanced understanding of mechanical processes

Deep expertise in aerospace standards and customer-specific requirements

Advanced knowledge of materials used in the aerospace industry

Certified auditor with significant experience in conducting audits and assessments

Expert-level proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

Proven Expertise in Quality Tools: PDCA/A3, Ishikawa diagram/3x5L Why, SIPOC/Process Flow Diagram/Process Flow Chart, Production Control Plan/FMEA, APQP/PPAP, SPC/Run Charts, MSA

Advanced Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Complex assembly, Machining, Electronic assembly, Welding/Brazing, Sheet metal forming, Heat treatment/Thermal coating

Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time

Fluency in English and Italian

Work Visa in accordance with local regulation is required

Desired Characteristics

Familiarity with GE Quality Systems and Tools: eCAV, eNMS, SPS (or equivalent customer tools)

Proficiency in GE Avio Aero IT Tools: APICE, SAP, Quarta EVO

Demonstrated ability to lead, persuade, motivate, and energize others at all levels, including senior leadership

Passionate, personable, self-confident, and adaptable to complex situations

Proven ability to establish trust, fairness, and honesty in relationships, building a strong personal power base
