Rate: PAYE: £42.25 per hour | Umbrella: £54.42 per hour
Are you an experienced Structural Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to lead impactful projects? We’re seeking a skilled Senior Structures Engineer to join our Assets & Infrastructure team in Newport for a 26-week contract, supporting a one-off project within our Flood Risk Management and Asset programme.
About the Role
As a Senior Structures Engineer, you’ll provide technical expertise to manage and maintain the organisation’s portfolio of structures, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. You’ll lead on structural engineering projects, from feasibility studies to design and site supervision, while mentoring team members and engaging with stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:
Conducting feasibility studies, preparing reports, bids, and presentationsDesigning structural engineering works using relevant software/CAD to British StandardsSupervising contractors and ensuring quality compliance on-siteLeading project management and structural inspections for highway structuresProviding technical advice to senior managers, elected members, and the publicSupporting funding bids with comprehensive management and financial informationEnsuring compliance with Health & Safety, CDM Regulations 2015, and Freedom of Information Act 2000What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a proactive and experienced professional with:
Proven expertise in structural engineering, ideally within infrastructure or highwaysExperience in design, contract preparation, and site supervisionStrong knowledge of British Standards and relevant legislation (e.g., Health & Safety, CDM 2015)Ability to use CAD/software for structural designExcellent communication skills for liaising with stakeholders, including external consultants, funding bodies, and the publicA full UK driving licence and ability to visit sites within NewportFlexibility to work outside normal hours when requiredKey Relationships
You’ll work closely with the Team Manager (Assets & Planning, Infrastructure), colleagues across the Infrastructure service area, elected members, external consultants, and members of the public.
