Position Overview:
The Senior Staff Metals Engineer is a key member of the Supplier Development Engineering group, which is part of Insulet’s Global Procurement and Supplier Development organization. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. Responsible for the management of all metals tooling, capital, and part design across the supply base. This role will be used to implement cutting edge technology in metals manufacturing and will work closely with peers in R+D, Quality and Sourcing, to lead and implement new capital equipment and tooling at suppliers focused on enabling successful new product launches through supplier engagement, component readiness, and cross-functional collaboration.
This role blends supplier engineering with hands-on involvement in early-stage R&D and pilot manufacturing activities. Working closely with internal R&D teams, this position ensures that suppliers are technically capable, validated, and aligned with the requirements of next-generation products.
Responsibilities:
Will serve as a Metals SME for the metal stamping, spring coiling and machining processes and designs
Oversee supplier validation activities including component qualification, tooling deployment, and process capability assessments
Partner with R&D teams to ensure supplier processes support pilot line performance, design validation, and manufacturability goals
Lead supplier engagement for DFM/DFA initiatives, driving early collaboration to optimize component design and production efficiency
Fluent use of tooling design and DFM programs to design and standardize robust and optimum tools.
Work with suppliers to maximize tool economics and understand all aspects of the manufacturing of metal components
Able to design / versed in blanking, form, piercing and progressive dies
Work with NPD managers to review new designs and propose feasibility on the same
Work with NPD on sourcing prototypes.
Lead/Consult at design review meetings with suppliers
Be on the forefront of metals technology.
Specify and review designs for equipment, tooling, materials, and part designs

Expertise in supplier process development, component validation, and tooling qualification
Demonstrated success in leading supplier engineering efforts for complex NPI projects in regulated environments
Strong project management and cross-functional skills
Experience with technical capability assessments
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing)
Minimum 8+ years relevant working experience in the metals industry
Proficiency in Auto Cad/Solid Works
Fluent in Progressive die tool design, die and strip review etc.
Ability to trouble shoot issues with metals processes
Root Cause Analyses (RCA) skills
Additional Information:
Able to work in a Class 8 Cleanroom Environment as needed
Role is based in Acton, MA and the ideal candidate will be in office a minimum of 4 days a week
Ability to travel domestically/Internationally – 40% max; 15%-25% typical
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
5 years experience in the tool and die industry
Journeyman card
Understanding of GD+T
Understanding of metals ASTM specs
Understanding of secondary coating and plating processes

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $114,075.00 - $171,112.50. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
