We are looking for a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to support Stryker’s Instruments Division. This role is focused on new product development supporting our Surgical Technologies business, working specifically on the development of our Next Generation Neptune portfolio.
As a Senior Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the integration of multiple mechanical subsystems into a large, complex electro-mechanical medical device that serves to manage smoke and fluid in an OR setting. You will support design and development, from ithe nception phase to launch.

This role is hybrid based in Stryker's Global HQ in Portage, MI, with the expectation to come into the office 3-4 days a week.
What You Will Do
Lead mechanical project teams through the full product development lifecycle—from concept and design to development and launch—ensuring timely and high-quality execution.Drive research, design, development, and evaluation of complex mechanical modules, subsystems, and assemblies, including advanced prototyping and testing.Apply and mentor others in advanced engineering principles, with expertise in fluid management, filtration, suction, and thermal management.Translate user needs into design inputs and system-level specifications; lead efforts in resolving complex design challenges.Support innovation through technology exploration and development of intellectual property, including patents and invention disclosures.Lead customer-focused activities such as voice of customer, customer-centric design, and application of clinical insights to enhance product development and market relevance.Guide adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements; lead creation and refinement of technical documentation, including Design History Files.Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Manufacturing teams; mentor and develop team members while driving continuous improvement initiatives.What You NeedRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline6+ years of work experienceExperience in developing and optimizing complex mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.Ability to create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models, with application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools for design optimization.Preferred QualificationsExperience in developing electromechanical components and assemblies, with familiarity in system processes related to fluid management, filtration, suction, or thermal management.Experience using PTC CREO for CAD design and Windchill for product data managementExperience in creating test protocols for electro-mechanical systems.Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies to support complex product developmentTravel Percentage: 20%Stryker Corporation is an equal opportunity employer.
