JobSummary: The Inventory Accounting Sr. Staff Accountant is responsible for completing the day-to-day activity of the Inventory Accounting Department. Work performed will include, but is not limited to, the monthly close functions such as journal entry preparation, Stock Ledger manual adjustment preparation, account reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting and internal and external audit support. This position will be reported directly to the Director of Inventory Accounting.
This is a hybrid role based in our Westbury, NY office.
An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate between $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.
WhatYouDo:
1. Assist the Director with day-to-day requests within the Inventory Accounting department.
• Provide support for general department inquiries and schedule requests as well as coordinate communication with other department team members.
• Provide guidance and support as needed.
2. Perform monthly accounting close responsibilities such as General Ledger journal entries and Stock Ledger manual adjustments.
• Assist in the monthly accounting close to meeting all financial deadlines accurately and in time.
• Monthly General Ledger journal entry preparation and submission.
• Monthly Stock Ledger manual adjustment preparation and submission.
• Monthly Gross Margin supporting schedules preparation.
• Stock Ledger Uploads – collection of department Stock Ledger manual adjustments, upload template preparation, batch log recording, coordination with BN IT in running system jobs, and data validations and reconciliations for audit retention.
3. Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
• Provide Balance Sheet account reconciliations as required.
• Research and provide documentation for internal review.
• Ensure all documentation is accurate & completed prior to submission, paying attention to the required screenshots and formats for completeness.
4. Assist with external & internal audit requests with a focus on document collection.

5. Assist with Annual Physical Inventory reporting and invoice validations.
• Coordination with LP in the physical inventory scheduling to ensure all expected data with be submitted timely.
• Gathering of 3rd party physical inventory data, specifically with units counts and extended retail inventory values and reconciling the data provided balances to internal reporting.
• Gathering of 3rd party invoicing related to the annual physical inventory process, ensuring units, rates, and values agree with the contractual obligated components.
6. Provide monthly forecasting support for larger Gross Margin items such as Vendor Shared Markdowns and Freight (both store inbound and outbound costs, as well as online shipping costs).
• Prepare the monthly forecasts for Vendor Shared Markdowns and Store/Online freight costs by Department for extended retail and cost values.
• Ensure all documentation is accurate and completed prior to submitting it to the Director for review.
• Ad-hoc reporting as requested by various departments and/or Director when required.
7. Provide monthly US Census Bureau reporting.
• Obtain monthly Stock Ledger data to update the monthly US Census Bureau reporting.
• Ensure all documentation is accurate and completed prior to submitting it to the Director for review.
8. Special Projects might include, but not limited to:
• System conversions
• Enhanced reporting applications
Knowledge&Experience:
- Four-year Accounting or Finance degree with a strong GPA.
- Minimum of (4) four years related accounting experience with a strong knowledge of commonly used accounting concepts, practices and procedures.
- Focus on internal audit controls, and exposure with SOX compliance
- Strong computer skills in a Windows environment, especially in Excel and Word, as well as Oracle Financial Systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access database software a plus
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL database software a plus.
- Must have the ability to do in-depth research with proper follow-through and communicate with Management daily.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize and be a team player.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- This role is based out of our Westbury, NY office and requires being willing and able to reliably commute into the Westbury office 3 days a week.
