Education
Equivalent NQF Level 6 short term / non-life insurance qualification.Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer science and/or other similar Degrees.Business analysis qualifications are an advantage.Experience
5-8 years’ experience in non-life technical underwriting or product development and Policy Administration System (PAS) experience.3-5 years’ data analytics experience.3-5 years’ experience in process mapping, design and/or re-engineering.Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, such as SQL, Excel, EMBLEM, Python, or R.Machine learning experience advantageous.Resilience in facing challenges, as well as being flexible to accommodate alternate solutions.Provide technical expertise with a clear focus on growth, profitability, efficiency and customer satisfaction. Manage the Personal Lines product set in line with the company risk appetite and business strategy, by taking a holistic view of the business, product, systems and processes to ensure the business delivers process automation, operational efficiencies and excellence to Customers.Manage the underwriting on the Personal Lines product set
Develop tools to support the Personal Lines underwriting framework including product wording, risk acceptance criteria, underwriting rules & guidelines, retention limits, maintenance of Greenbox and other available and relevant system tools (TIA/Broker portal) and survey standards where required.Monitors market conditions, competitive landscape regulatory and technological changes and provides feedback on complaints to ensure the product offering remains relevant and competitive.Assists the process of any implementing any product or underwriting changes (e.g. setting up business requirements, obtain signoffs and testing with relevant stakeholders)Action Audit findings where applicable.Collaborate with the business to facilitate the process of product procurement approvals, on-boarding and launch to market.Provide technical underwriting expertise with a clear focus on growth, profitability, efficiency, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction
Provide training to the larger underwriting teams working in the business environment on personal lines products, changes, upgrades, limitations. Assist with training with all stakeholders.Design and implement Personal Lines product and underwriting solutions that improve operational efficiency and effectiveness through process reengineering, product rationalisation/design, technology and continuous improvement.Apply architectural principles to business solutions to integrate, adapt and link disconnected processes and systems to high-priority business issues.Understand the underwriting processes, back-end systems, identify inefficiencies and optimization and automation opportunities for modernization and solution accordingly.Design and implementation of quick win solutions that do not require IT development.Define, develop and support the implementation of process automation strategies and solutions to continuously improve process, products and systems to adapt to changing needs.Design and manage the underwriting process flow according to required standards across the entire insurance value chain.Work with the data architects to define dataflow, data transformation, interface needs and sources for all information.Monitor product metrics to inform product and process changes and perform portfolio analysis to inform underwriting initiatives.Build and maintain dashboards and metrics related to portfolio and underwriting statistics published in Power Bi or SQL.Facilitate workshops to gather requirements, generate ideas and validate future designs.Supporting task teams for implementing underwriting actions and solutions.Continuous improvement to ensure effective service
Ensure statutory and legislative knowledge is always current to resolve customer complaints, to advise the business on corrective solutions to mitigate risks and to improve the customer experience whilst complying with governance requirements.Ensure adherence to organisational policies, practices, guides, mandates and procedures.Identify solutions to enhance cost effectiveness and increase operational efficiency.Service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction
Maintain service, quality and desired outputs within a specific functional process through ensuring compliance to tactical policies, procedures and standards.Establish productive operational relationships with key stakeholders in the various channels and administrative teams.Develop work routines in line with operational plans / schedules to manage achievement of service delivery goals.Share knowledge on, and participate in the creation of new standards, control systems and procedures to maintain service delivery.Collaborate, develop and maintain the referral framework for queries emanating from the Office of the Internal Ombud Office, National Financial Ombud Scheme South Africa (NFO) and Claims.Cost control and governance adherence
